Commercial aviation was born, and planes were able to fly short distances.

The computer was invented during this time with minimal function.

Medicine has come a long way between the two wars. The barbers used to work as doctors performing minor surgical procedures. The inventions of x-rays and microscopes have transformed how patients were diagnosed and treated. The germ theory was discovered. The germ theory is that certain diseases are caused by the invasion of the body by microorganisms, organisms too small to be seen except through a microscope.

Wars were fought differently between the Civil War and World War I. Many weapons were used in The Civil War from knives to swords along with a variety of firearms, including rifles, pistols, muskets, and repeating weapons. Also widely used was artillery including cannons. Some of the new weapon technologies used in the civil war include rifled gun barrels, the Minie ball and repeating rifles.

Mortars were used, which had no moving parts and could fire up to 22 three-inch shells per minute, with a range of I,200 yards. Tanks, flamethrowers, and poison gas were used. Trench warfare, a type of combat in which opposing troops fight from trenches facing each other, played a huge role in World War I. The soldiers that were fighting in the trenches were usually in unsanitary conditions causing infectious diseases such as dysentery, cholera and typhoid fever were common and spread rapidly.
