Rufus makes himself into the good guy by manipulating the slaves with a party. Rufus liked to make himself look like the good guy by not hurting anybody and having his enforcer do the dirty work. Rufus the good food and party's as a valve they would make it so the slaves would have something to look forward to so they would not rebel or try to run away. Thats how manipulation is used to get the slaves to do what the master wants them to do.

Margret Weylin manipulates Rufus into liking her. Margret Weylin tries to get her son to love her by bring him deserts. Margret tries to bribe Rufus into liking her. She really tried to be a good mother bring him deserts and trying to make him conformable always. She really felt out-shined by Dana who comes around every couple of years and amazes Rufus.
