The Original and the Modern Transcendentalists

The transcendentalist Emerson, Longfellow, and Thoreau in the 1850’s in Massachusetts did not like modernization, science, and technology. But they did believe in nonconformity, self-reliance, and confidence. These transcendentalist believed in nonconformity and confidence. An example modernization in our world can be found in the song “Soundtrack to my life”, by KiD CuDi and in another song “Drop the World”, by Lil Wayne. In Emerson’s nonconformists quote, “but if a man would be alone, let him look at the stars”, he is portraying the man loving earths nature, let them admire where they are standing alone, everyone unique in their own way.

And the modern transcendentalists, KiD CuDi, in “ Soundtrack to my Life” states, “I got 99 problems in the isle b*tch*s, wish it was ligament, carefree living, but I’m not Shawn or Martin lui…I control my own life Charles was never in charge.. ”, in this quote he demonstrates that he has many problems but he has put up with it and no matter what he doesn’t care what others say or have done, he will be on his own because its his life.

KiD CuDi’s modern quote is transcendentalist in the way that like the original transcendentalist has the same way of believing in the man being who they want to be and not depending on another. In another of Emerson‘s confidence, “nature is a setting that fits equally well a comic or a mourning piece. In good health, the air is a cordial of incredible virtue”, he is implying nature is pretty, bad, and good, no matter how it can be, but its good for all humans, because without it we wouldn’t survive.

In a modern quote by Lil Wayne, in “Drop the World”, “I got ice in my veins, blood in my eyes…the top gets higher the more that I climb. The spot gets smaller and I get bigger Trying to get into where I fit in…So I pick the world up and I’m a drop it on your f*ckin’ head”. In his quote he is demonstrating he has struggled to get to where he is standing and that nothing will put him down because all his struggles have made him stronger. This modern quote bye Lil Wayne is transcendentalist in the way that he is believing in him self and is not giving up. Transcendentalists have affected our modern world.

They have affected our modern world by changing the way we think, our way of being, and how we think things through. We hear it, read, and see it everywhere like in songs, in speeches, and even in movies or shows. Anyone could be inspired by transcendentalism like, song composers, poets, movie or show directors. Transcendentalist beliefs are still around because people that got inspired by the original ones began to write like the others and then they inspired other people. If it wouldn’t of been for them many humans would not realize where in this world they are standing.
