Another source estimates at least 12 between 2002 and 2012. And some cases are: On May 29, 2007, a 29-year-old Romy Baligula, karaoke singer, was singing "My Way" at a bar in San Mateo, Rizal, when a security guard complained he was off key. According to reports, the victim refused to stop singing, the 43 year old guard, Robilito Ortega, was so enraged that he pulled out a .38 calibre pistol and shot the singer in the chest. Another case was reported by GMA News in August 2014 under the headline "My Way strikes again?" In this case one man was killed and other was stabbed in Legazpi City after arguing over who should get to sing the song.

"Videoke rage" is not just limited to "My Way" in the Philippines. "There have been several reported cases of singers being assaulted, shot or stabbed mid-performance, usually over how songs are sung," according to a 2008 report in Britain's Guardian newspaper. In Malaysia in 2008, a man at a coffee shop hogged the karaoke microphone so long he was stabbed to death by other patrons. In Thailand, a man was arrested on charges that he shot to death eight neighbors, one of whom was his brother-in-law, in a dispute stemming from several karaoke offerings, including repeated renditions of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads".

The lyrics of the song "My Way" does not implies a good message also. The lyrics, written by Paul Anka for Mr. Sinatra are about a tough guy who when was doubt, simply ate it up and spit it out. Some Filipino karaoke lovers interviewed by The New York Times in 2010 speculated that the swaggering, unapologetic nature of the lyrics played some role. Butch Albarracin, the owner of Center for Pop, believes the lyrics of "My Way" increase the violence and he posited a theory that the lyrics of the song might be the key to its inspiring such anger and animosity in unhappy listeners. "The lyrics evoke feelings of pride and arrogance in the singer, as if you're somebody when you're really nobody," Albarracin said in a 2010 interview.

ANALYSIS

Due to having no respect to others, there are many crimes being committed. "My Way Killings" is not a cursed to our society. We all know that our country has many crime issues and it's not new to us if we knew someome was killed. Most of the crime reports regarding on this issue is being committed by people who are under the spirit of alcohol. We, Filipinos mostly used videoke together with an alcohol that make an individual aggressive on his/her actions. And also the song "My Way" is not only the song that makes arguments. This only means that it is not only about the song that triggers conflict but the attitudes of the people on karaoke bars. People who are being violent to people who are singing because they believe that the tune must sound just like their preferences.

Some also argue that the lyrics of the song depicts immorality that causes people to fight. As they said, the lyrics shows arrogance that makes every listener intervene the performance of the singer due to the off keys of the tunes. The lyrics contribute to the violence being done by people in the karaoke bars.

CONCLUSION

Karaoke bars in the Philippines can often be very violent due to bad attitudes such as laughing at other performers, performing the same song twice, or hogging the microphone. Banning this song in the karaoke is a great help to elevate the crimes being committed here in the Philippines. But even though this song is banned, crimes cannot still be avoided in the karaoke bars. It's better to sing on a 'videoke' in a private place rather than in public places to avoid arguments with other people. But even though the message of the song is irrelevant, crimes shouldn't be done because that is only a song, not a command. Song may teach us good attitudes and sometimes bad but it will depend on us if we will follow or do the message of the song. Nevertheless, respect will always be the best solution to finally put period in this issue, "My Way Killings".
