The line drawing approach is used to compare the outcome involved in making a decision on serval different choices. To me, the line drawing technique is a very dynamic way of weighing pros and cons. Although, a pro and con sheet weights all cons and pro in the same category. The line drawing approach allows you to weight the choices on a sliding scale. For example, some choice may lead to a con that is very bad while it also has other cons, but those cons do not carry as much significant weight.
This allows you to swing to the positive, and negative side. Furthermore, it allows you to see if there is a middle ground solution.
The line drawing technique allows you to easier understand complex problems because of the features I have mentioned above. By looking at a problem from many different viewpoints, it gives you a good chance to make the right choice for each application you use it on.
This method is not perfect because it requires the person doing the line drawing to make informed choices. Since you are the only one making the choices, your views might be bias.
Working in a team can be difficult for many of reasons. When in a team it is very likely that many people will have a different outlook on personal ethics. The outcome of this is that many people in the team may disagree with each other, and that can create tension. Also, when working in a team you have some people with the strongest personality out talk people that have a more introverted personality.
This may lead to certain people making all the choices.

Also, in some states you must hold a license to practice engineering. A profession is also a way to earn a living and keeps a person busy during working hours. In a case of engineer, this is exactly what it is. Therefore, this makes engineering a true profession.
People may consider engineering to be a step below in terms of profession compared to medicine and law. The main reason this holds true in some cases is some states do not require you to be licensed engineer. Also, engineers do a lot of work away from the public eye, which causes people to forget the value in the work they do. The problem-solving methods in Engineering and Ethics are similar in some ways to the problem-solving methods you would use in a classic Engineering course. They both involve gathering all the information related to the task at hand, breaking down the information to specific problems, and concluding the best way to solve the problem. You use example of past data to help you make these informed choices while noticing the difference in your specific case when compared to the past cases.
The big difference in the problem-solving methods used in this class compared to classic engineering class is using judgement because everything is not black and white in this class. In a regular engineering class you use math and physics to calculate the expected result. These theories are mostly correct neglecting some error. While in this class, you use concepts and principles that might not be as quite defined. This allows you to use some judgement when making decisions on matters. To me, a regular engineering class is more black and white while this class can give you solutions that are not clearly in one category.
