The Importance of Bees Existence for Human

Categories: Human

The bee is a critical species to human existence. Honey bees are one of the most important pollinators. They are responsible for $30 billion of crops produced in a year. Albert Einstein allegedly once said, 'No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man'. A world without bees wouldn't be able to sustain the human population that is continuously growing.

What would our world look like? Since 2006, scientists and beekeepers have been noticing a dramatic drop in the population of honey bees and we just keep planting more crops that need them (colony collapse disorder).

In this essay I will go into more detail about the importance of bees, the reason for the disappearance of honey bees and what we can do to help honey bees.

As I mentioned in my introduction, bees are critical to human existence, without them our world wouldn't be able to sustain the human population. Bees are a critical part of the food chain.

People rely on Producers, that is plants, to survive, and without bees plants may not be pollinated and will not reproduce. This means that basically, if there no bees, there may also be no humans. Honey bees are the most important pollinators. There are more honey bees that pollinate crops and plants than other pollinating species and other types of bees. They pollinate crops that feed 90% of the world. 1/3 of the food we consume a day, is reliant on bee pollination.

The crops that they pollinate are about 70 of 100 crop species.

Even if the crop is not pollinated directly by the honey bee, it still benefits from being surrounded by plants that are, because the crops are stimulated and are surrounded by biodiversity. We don't only depend on bees for their pollination, but also for their role in the economy. Bees pollinate a wide variety of plants and crops. One of the main things bees pollinate is alfalfa and clover, which is consumed by cattle.

If there were no longer any bees pollinating the clover and alfalfa then the cattle wouldn't have anything to eat, so it would affect the meat and dairy industry as well. This is just one example of many things that would be affected. They also pollinate cotton and flax, and produce honey and beeswax used in cleaning products and beauty products. Looking at it numerically, the honey bee contributes 15 billion dollars a year in the United States alone.
