The Compulsory Voting and the Unethical Government Actions

Categories: Compulsory Voting

Although the specific verbiage used in this piece of literature lists the right as a freedom it is not an option to sit idle but instead a necessity for all to participate, Along with the establishment of the constitution came the banning of racial, gender economic, religious, and such selectivity. It is a citizen's civil duty to participate in elections and display their opinions on issues. Recently, voter participation has been lower than expected across the United States. One such instance of this is Florida's 2014 mid-term election.

During this election, youths were severely underrepresented with a majority of the voters of retirement age. This left the true feelings of the state up to interpretation by policy makers as the polls showed only issues the senior citizen community wanted to cover. Compulsory voting could eliminate this problem by allowing the state to record the opinions of the average citizen and the issues they felt were important to cover. Election campaigns have become candidates struggling for power and a lead in the political race to office by using any option necessary. This includes misinforming the public in an effort to deceive them into voting for them or into disliking their opponent. With compulsory voting all voters would be aware of the candidate's policy issue standing's, which would lead to more informed voters and less voters basing their decision off several Television advertisements. Because of the change of public wants, candidates could lessen the intensity of debates and get more specific about policy issues. Compulsory voting would lead to more open elections and less miss informed voters. Compulsory voting is essential in a democratic system of government as is allows for the true feelings of the country to be assessed. Compulsory voting benefits every party in the election process from ordinary citizens to the candidates in political races.
