In the age of intelligence-led policing it simply breaks down into two different types: tactical and strategic. Intelligence-led policing is a methodical approach that helps law enforcement identify, examine, and formulate preventive, protective, and responsive operations to a specific targets, threats, and problems[4]. After understanding what intelligence-led policing is, one can then begin to understand the difference between tactical and strategic intelligence.

Tactical intelligence is ‘information that is analyzed and contributes directly to a specific incident'[4], with immediate action to follow up on the data provided.

On the other hand, strategic intelligence is ‘analyzed information that evolves and develops over time, contributing to broad scope issues, such as planning and resource allocation[4]’. Now with a basic understanding of the differences, it is my belief that I would rather be involved in strategic intelligence.

Strategic intelligence, as defined by the Pentagon, is intelligence that is required for the formulation of strategy, policy, and military plans and operations at national and theater levels[1].

This type of intelligence is what shapes the fabric of this Nations everyday life. With strategic intelligence, everything is meticulously studied and drawn out to be used in the best possible way.

Strategic intelligence provides policy makers with all the information needed to make national policy or decisions of long-lasting importance, and its collection often requires integrating information concerning politics, military affairs, economics, societal interactions, and technological developments[2].
