Hi, my name is Sherlyn Garcia-Mendez, and in this speech, I will be showing you why I am a good addition to the executive board. Let’s start off with something fun. For example, when I was in fifth grade, a school year ago, I was given the amazing chance to write a speech for the fifth grade graduation. At first, I was so excited: My voice being heard. But a couple of days after, I was having second thoughts about doing it.

And when I saw everyone, looking at me, paying attention to me, I thought to myself, “I got this!”, so I definitely believe that confidence is the key to the lock of dreams.

This is why when you get an open opportunity, you take it, just like I did when I saw the slides saying that you can write a speech to become part of the executive board. Some of my best qualities are: being patient, confident, honest, dependable, and most of all, responsible.

These are great qualities to have in a member of the executive board because if you have all of those qualities, life would go easier for you. I find myself fitting perfectly into the executive board because even though I am extremely cooperative, I always like expressing my opinion.

As one of my favorite quotes go, “If not us, who? If not now, when?” This quote, which is only expressed in two sentences, has a amazingly powerful meaning. This quote says that if you don’t do something that you have been dreaming of doing, things sometimes won’t go your way.

It doesn’t matter if your plan didn’t go the way you wanted it to go. What matters is you trying, and putting forth your best effort. This could definitely be a way to get what you’ve been hoping fr, and as one of my quotes go, “when failure appears, new opportunities arise”.

And as I ask myself, “why do I want to do executive board?”, I answer, “Because I have noticed that there are many things that are still not occurring, and with the help of others, of course, the school, or district or even world could be better. I have always been that person that asks, ‘why wait for the world could change when you have the power to change it?’. Well, the executive board could give me a wonderful chance to change for a good reason.
