As an employee, the information that is available is sometimes limited. However, it can be seen through the internal environment, as well as through the available information that there are several strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the company. Through these various factors, one can see what the company can do as well as what the opportunities will be for the employees that are working in the area. The employer that was looked into was WeStat, a nationally based research company with several data entry and research locations.
The first assessment of WeStat is the strengths that are in the company. As an employee, it can be seen that the main strengths for employment rely on flexibility. As a staff member, one can decide on the hours that they wish to come in. There is the ability to change schedules as well as use an automated system in order to shift schedules. For those that are effective in their research, they are able to gain more benefits from individual pay checks, as well as be given other opportunities to conduct more research and data entry in the field.
The strengths that are seen from the employer are based on the organizational factors that are linked to the research. The training that takes place for all employees is one that allows for extra organization to occur. Beyond this, there is the ability for the strengths to be seen by the clarity of the research that is done. Before the research reaches the employees, it goes through several testing levels in order to find the right wording as well as the organization that is most effective for conducting all levels of research. By the end of the study, it can easily be seen that finding the results of the studies can easily be identified for the company. Most of this research and these findings are directly linked to the governmental links.
The weaknesses in relation to this begin with the internal environment of the company. Because there is flexibility in the company, the employees don’t have a specific space for them. The cubicles that are used are only the space of a closet size, with the management in the middle of the room, which assess all individuals. This does not allow for privacy or comfort and takes away from the enjoyment of the company. This also leaves the management with difficult decisions that have to be made for the internal environment.
The weaknesses of the research can also be seen in the type of environment that is available. Most of the research that is conducted is similar to that of a marketing study. The difficulty of this is that most of those who attend the research studies or data studies are not familiar with the approach that is being taken. This often times limits the possibilities of receiving a wide variety of research from those who have been part of the study. When there is no responsiveness or limited responses because of the reaction and belief that something is being sold, it makes it difficult to approach a diverse group of individuals.
The opportunities that can arise from both the strengths and weaknesses come from identifying both the internal and external environments. The opportunities with the employees relies on providing more available options, not only with the scheduling and pay, but also with gaining better relations with the employees. If there were slight changes in the environment, it would be more conducive to conducting the correct research as well as finding an environment that would allow employees to feel as though they were in a comfortable environment. This would not only help with finding more research availability because of the change in tone, but would also allow for more employees to want to be available for longer periods of time.
The opportunities for the external environment would be based on initiating better conversation and research availability with those who were conducted for the studies. If the individuals were more familiar with WeStat and had the ability to prepare for the conversations, than the information given would be more effective. In order to do this, WeStat would have to create the opportunity of conducting studies after marketing or advertising. This would allow those who were in the study to be more informed of how the study would benefit them. Because most of the studies are based on health, government and changes that are needed, using this as an opportunity for helping those in the study gain knowledge would provide more opportunities to the company.
The threats in the company are based on the researchers, technical factors and with those that are in the survey, as well as external factors that may put the company at risk. If the researchers are not able to be offered a friendlier environment, it could cause difficulty in conducting the correct responses. While everything is done through script, there is little room for flexibility and for research availability. In relation to this, the technical factors are not updated. While most of this is organized, it would be more effective with software that provided more availability for the employees. The combination of these two things in the internal environment would change the possibilities available. The external factors that cause a threat are the inability to reach a large amount of people. If someone is unaware of the company and what they are doing, there will not be effective research that can be done.
In order to correct these different things, a variety of actions can be taken. The first of these is to create technical availability that accommodates to the employees. The employees should also have the availability of creating a different space that is more conducive to humane work. For the external environment, it is recommended that some of the money received moves into advertising for WeStat so that the individuals will have the ability to understand the difference between research and marketing that is being done through the phone calls. It may also be effective to create data entry areas that are conducted through the Internet or through other higher technology sources.
In relation to these recommendations, the priority should begin on the external environment. If more knowledge were given about the research being done, there would be the ability to create a better internal environment. By beginning to change this situation and offer more possibilities for research availability, there would be more support. Because this company is conducive to change that comes from the government, having the knowledge available to all individuals is important. This will then build a better internal environment for all who are involved in the company.
The strengths in the internal and external environment are based on the ability to conduct research. However, this also presents weaknesses and threats because of some of the procedures that are being overlooked. By beginning to change the weaknesses into opportunities and by rebuilding priorities within the company, there will be the ability to offer more in the company that will provide a better overall change for those who are working in WeStat.
