1. Introduction Sports Tourism is defined as a specific travel outside of the usual environment for either passive or active involvement in competitive sport and international sports tournament where sport is the prime motivational reason for travel and the touristic or leisure element may act to reinforce the overall experience. Another definition worth noting explains sport tourism as a combination of sports activities and travel.
From a sport marketing and sport management perspective, it consists of two broad categories of products: a) sports participation travel (travel for the purpose of participating in a sports, recreation, leisure or fitness activity); and b) sports spectatorial travel (travel for the purpose of spectating sports, recreation, leisure or fitness activities or events considering the international sports coverage of the event for sports magazine. )
Today, tourism is the world’s number one industry while sports are regarded as the number one industry in the leisure sector. Sports are an integral part of all culture, and while often viewed as a separate activity, it is inextricably linked to tourism. Sports can now be viewed as an attraction within the broader tourism industry and a profit to the government of Batangas. Sports Tourism is emerging as a key component of tourism supply. Major tourism destinations are developing tourism product concepts revolving around pleasure sports.
These concepts enable destinations to stand out amongst their competitors and increasing their competitive edge in the international arena, attracting consumers who are keen on getting in touch with nature, and interacting with the community to enjoy more healthy and interactive holidays. Sports tourism can help the tourism industry as well as the economy in the Philippines and the related local government. If we will consider the sports tourism as a tourism activity. It will increase the market of the Philippines and also the rating in terms of most visited country in the world.
Most of the tourist visited a country for sports because nowadays the population of the tourist that are travelling is most likely the teenagers and the middle ages and mostly they travel to bond with their family where they want to experience spice and adventure in their life and the Philippines is the best place for them. The government also should consider that sports tourism is a stepping stone for the Philippines to erase the entire bad image that we are living for such a quite time and for now, to help our economy to have an economic and stable growth.
Our economy needs helped and also our country we should pursue the Sports Tourism here in the Philippines because it can attract more tourist to come here in our country we are known for our hospitable services why we can’t be known as the Sports Tourism Capital in Asia if we like to be known we should do something right now we should help the Department Of Tourism (DOT) to promote such places and discovered them for being a wonderful spots for sports tourism. The Department of Tourism (DOT) recognizes the capability of sports being a worldwide interest, to boost tourism traffic in the country.
Also, sports tourism is likey to give foreign and local tourists a reason to visit different destination in the Philippines which will eventually open more doors for business, services, and employment opportunities. Like in Anilao, Batangas and related local areas many tourist are attracted to the place in which they can enjoy sports activities and at the same time they get to enjoy the wonderful beaches along the area. Anilao , Batangas is one of the local destinations that have been successfully developed its natural tourism assets into money – making sporting sites and as well underway to the international sporting circuit and tournament.
However , developing Anilao,Batangas as a Sports Facility needs or requires an all out support from the national sports association, the international fin swimming association and the tourism stakeholders such as the local Government units, event organizers, hotel and resort sectors and tour operators. The researcher study the effect of sports in the tourism industry of Anilao , Batangas that will perceived by the internal tourism stakeholders to prove that sports has a contribution in the development of tourism industry and if sports can help the economy to gain profit .
1. 2 Statement of the Problem The research attempted to determine the effectiveness of Sports in the tourism industry of Anilao, Batangas as perceived by the internal tourism stakeholders. Specifically, the researcher sought to answer the following questions: 1. How are the following respondents characterized in terms of: 1. Hotel managers 1. Age 2. Civil Status 3. How do the following sports activities affect the tourism industry of Anilao, Batangas in terms of economy? 2. 1 Scuba Diving 2. 2 Snorkelling 2. 3 Fin Swimming 2. 4 Trekking 2. 5 Auto – Racing 2. 6 Dirt Biking 3. Is there a significant differences in the effects of sports activities as perceived by the respondents whom they are grouped according to their profile? 1. 3 Significance of the Study Community. It is Significant to the community or to the people of Anilao it is because they can benefit on the growth of the economy in their place.
Tourism Students. They will know that the sports is an effective way to help the tourism industry to gain economic growth . Anilao, Batangas. They will be more aware that their place can be the center of the Sports Tourism industry. 1. 4Theoretical Framework In the study of sports and leisure, many researchers have explored the concept of loyalty. Indeed, the first studies of leisure services — namely Selin, Howard, Udd, and cable (1988) and howard, Edginton, and Selin (1988) – did incorporate loyalty. These studies focused on people who sign up for fitness, health, and art classes.
Many researchers have reported that the type of resource exchanged between individuals is associated with the type of relationship they established with each other (Berg & McQuinn, 1986; Brinberg & Castell, 1982; Stangl, 1993). In addition, chen (2006) notes: “ What drives individuals to repeatedly and constantly participate in certain leisure activities? Social and resource exchange theories may help to explain the phenomenon. John hargreaves writes, “One cannot begin to understand the structure and meaning of sport without appreciating that it is intimately tied up with conceptions and evaluations of the social order” (Hargreaves, 1982).
The same theoretical interests in the concept of cultural experience that has influenced writers on the other aspects of social experience, such as the media and tourism (Becker, 1974; holfman, 1967; McLuhan, 1964). MacCanell’s(1976) work parallels that of the sport theorists, in the first full scale sociological examination of modern tourism , he constructs sightseeing as a cultural form , integrally part of culture. 1. 5 Conceptual Framework The model will provide the general structure and guide for the direction of the study.
Substituting the variables of this study on the model, the researcher came up with the following: The effect of Sports and tourism in the tourism industry, how it will affect the economic and social growth of the Philippines especially in the help of the Sports which is the leisure experienced or parts which the tourist and in to. 1. 6 Scope and Limitations 1. ) The research covered the different tourism stakeholders in the Province of Anilao, Batangas to determine the effectiveness of Sports in the tourism industry.

The researcher intended to gather data from the DOT of Anilao because they are perceived to be master in the field of the topic and therefore, gave highly intellectual response to the concern of this study. 3. ) The researcher only focuses on the Effectivity of sports in the tourism industry to limit the scope of this study. 4. ) The researcher chooses Anilao, Batangas because it offers different sports activities that is related and can affect the tourism industry. 1. 8 Definition of Terms In order to havea common point of reference the operational definitions of the following terms are provided Sports Tourism.
It refers to travel which involves either viewing or participating in a sporting event. In the research Sports tourism refer to the variable that will help the tourism industry to gain economic and tourism growth. Economy . it refers to designed to save money. In the research the economy used the economy as one of the benefits that the sports tourism can have. Increase of Interest in Sports. in the research it is used also as one of the benefits that the sports tourism can have it can increase the interest of people in sports.
Communityis a group of interacting organisms sharing a populated environment. In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks, and a number of other conditions may be present and common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness. In the research the community refers to us as the one who can benefit in this study.
