Socrates was born in 470 BC in Circa Athens Greece. His father Sophroniscus was a stone carver and sculpture and his mother was a midwife. He was short and stocky, he had huge eyes and a stubby nose; fortunately he always emphasized the idea that the mind is more important than the looks of the physical body of the thinker. in other words, don't judge a book by its cover. Socrates because was as not a noble did not get a full education, but he did however get some education.

Socrates married a woman named Xanthippe, she gave birth to three sons. He said himself that he was not around and didn't have much to do with the upbringing of his children. Socrates's life is chronicled through only a few sources—the dialogues of Plato and Xenophon and the plays of Aristophanes ( Bio. 2011 ). The law at this time required all the men starting at the age of 18 - 60 to serve as soldiers.

Socrates served during the Peloponnesian war, he served in the armored infantry. he saved the life a general by the name of Alcibiades.

Socrates for the rest of his life went through Athens talking to young men and women. He asked questions that no one else did, he made people think in ways that they never did, and he dared to make them think about things that no one else had. Socrates was put on trail charged with corrupting the young citizens of Athens and twisting they way they think.

The jury gave Socrates a choice he could be exiled from Athens or be put to death.

Socrates suggested he be honored by the city for his contribution to their enlightenment and be paid for his services. he jury was not amused and sentenced him to death by drinking a mixture of poison hemlock. ( Bio. 2011 ) while Socrates was awaiting his death some of his friends offered to bride the guard to let him go and go into exile instead of facing death, but Socrates declined to offer. when the time came for Socrates to drink the mixture he did so without a single hesitation. Numbness slowly over took his body and crept to his heart until it stopped it, Socrates describe the feeling as it was happening as a release of the soul from the body. ( Bio. 2011 )
