School Memory of Mensuration

Menstruation is a form of chhaupadi in Nepal which prohibits Hindu women and girls from participating in formal family activities while menstruation, during a menstruation woman, is banned from the home and are required to live in a cattle shed or a makeshift dwelling known as a menstruation hut, for the duration of their period. I remember that when I was in the 5th grade I got my first period early in the morning. I should go away from the house where no one can see me, but I didn’t go.

I started to cry, so my lower brother saw me when I was crying .he told our parents that I was crying. Mom keep asked me what happened I told her that I got a period then she told me to stay here don’t come to the house I will bring you food and your clothes. I started to cry more they started lousing because I was a disappointment.

My dad called my teacher was my cousin's brother's wife who lives in our neighborhood.

I went to school with her. When I enter my classroom I sat in the

back sit by myself .friends were keep asked me that why are you sitting back, you always sit front disk, I didn’t say anything to them, later on, they found that I got period then they looked at me saying don’t touch me this and that. I feel so bad. I didn’t get up until by break time.

At break time all my ladies' friends came to me from the different classes and some from the same class of mine. When I got up from my sit blood was all over my cloth and sit, so all my friends started to help me that cleaning the sit and cover me from the outside of my body. We all went too far from my school, where are water tap and my friends washed my all cloth and dry on the sun. We wait until my clothes were dry by the time break was already over.

After the break, we all go back to our classes and the teacher noticed that we were late in the class. The teacher asked us why are all late for the class, but I embarrassed to tell him the story that I had period difficulties. He hits us badly with wood sticks .we all started to cry. I will never forget in my life that I had difficulty situation in my early school age. At that moment most of the women were uneducated, so they don’t know how to take care when they got a monthly cycle even though no one was underwear, they were just regular clothes. If my mom's sister knows about the women underwear. I should learn from them.

In my culture, menstruating women and girls are required to remain isolated from their family and are forbidden from entering homes, kitchens, schools, and temples during this times, they remain in what is often known as a place, which is usually made from wood or stone.in some locations, women may stay isolated from their family in a separate room attached to the houses, such as a shed used for storing tools. I stay with women where all are got period until 10 days, so my family drops my food there and I go to school and came back to the same place. After five days I got the gift from my parents which was new cloth and gold earring, because in our culture whenever girls get the first-period family should provide their daughter new gift whatever they offered

In Nepali culture is so hard for the women to have to follow a lot of rules and regulation when they got their monthly cycle, I experience lots of things as of now. This will be the most and last story of my life.
