My cousin, Quinn Anlauf, has suffered with this disease her whole life. She has to carry her medicine around with her at all times, or she might not be able to even eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Most patients aren’t able to live pat their childhood, but she has pushed through and fought her whole 19 years of her life. There have been tremendous discoveries while using mice, pigs, and ferrets to experiment with different medications and conditions, and I believe and hope that there are many more to come to help my cousin out.

Cystic Fibrosis can cause severe damage to your lungs, they’re trying their best to replicate human body parts and functions on a much smaller creature. Cystic Fibrosis is one of the first human genetic diseases to advance and benefit from animal testing. Not only have they done studies on mice, but also pigs and ferrets. Although animal testing has come very far in making history, sometimes it’s not accurate to use animals. On the website, “Vivisection Information Network,” it explains to us that some of the testing they do on mice for Cystic Fibrosis does not have the same reactions as they do in humans, due to not having the same parts within their body as we do. A mice’s respiratory system is significantly different than that of a human’s. Many other parts of their body can be much different, like the pancreas, intestines, and the reproductive system. Some scientists even say that up to 95% of these bodily functions can be considered to be different. This could negatively impact the research done by scientists. If they continue to record inaccurate data, they could potentially harm Cystic Fibrosis patients. Even if this is true, and applies to Cystic Fibrosis research, I will still continue to support it due to the success they have had with the current research.
Hence, biomedical research with animals can help any sort of patient in this world. In my case, I am very grateful to have accurate biomedical research in my life, due to my cousin, Quinn, benefitting from it. She has made many sacrifices throughout her life due to this disease, whether it being not going out with her friends, or not being able to eat certain things because she doesn’t have her medicine with her. Although there can be inaccurate research to cause defective medical plans, there have also been a great number of discoveries made.
