Roaring Twenties and Jazz Age

The Roaring Twenties was an exciting time for America and was also known as the Golden Twenties. The reason for this is because many new things were happening and one of them was known as the Jazz Age. Although the Great Depression was a bad time in America for most people, the Jazz Age provided a way for people to cope or escape from their daily lives. The Jazz Age was created by African-American musicians in New Orleans. The Jazz Age started because the lively beats of jazz caught lots of people’s attentions back in the Roaring Twenties (“The Jazz Age.” Jazz Age. Web. 25 Apr. 2012 ). People who listened to jazz formed a new culture. The Jazz Age even inspired changes in both hairstyles and fashion. The younger generation of jazz listeners shocked the older generation with their shorter clothes and new hairstyles (“The Jazz Age.” Jazz Age. Web. 25 Apr. 2012. ) .

Jazz was popular and was great entertainment. Jazz quickly became popular, spreading to all types of entertainment, not just music. Jazz was played at almost every sport events. Also, it was played by marching bands and clubs. National radio was one of the reasons why jazz spread so quickly through America. (“The Jazz Age.” The Jazz Age. Feb. 2012. Web. 28 May 2012. ) The music was so popular that its influence spread to other forms of entertainment like literature. The Great Gatsby is a very famous book that was written during the Jazz Age. Jazz provided great entertainment, but it also encouraged equality. The Jazz Age helped minorities in America earn more equality than they had received before.

Even in movies and on the stage, black and white actors and musicians made their appearance side by side for the first time. It was even possible for people to go to nightclubs and see whites and other races dancing and eating together (“THE JAZZ AGE.” Squidoo. Web. 25 Apr. 2012). This helped many Americans improve their daily lives. The Jazz Age was defined by new music that provided entertainment and racial equality to many during the Great Depression. Although some thought that the Jazz Age was a bad influence for the younger generations, it also provided a sense of escape to many who suffered during the Great Depression. The Jazz Age made such an impact in those years that jazz is still with us today.
