Rights and Responsibilities of Service Users

Service users rights- hospital they have the right to be respected this means that they have the right to be treated the same as every one else and how they want to be treated. For example they might not want to be treated by a certain gender of doctor so they will have to respect that and arrange something else for them. For example if you have a Muslim then they might not want to be examined unless they have a family member in the room with them so they have to respect this and make sure that they allow this to happen because it might be because of their believes and they might not like to be examined by a certain gendered person.

Another thing is that they have the right to be treated equally and not to be discriminated against. This means that they have the right to have the same treatment as everyone else and it doesn’t matter if they are from a different background they should be able to have the same treatment as everyone else. For example if there is someone that has their health care privately and there is someone that is using the NHS then they need to make sure that the doctors that are treating them should give them the quality of care that they deserve.

Also they have the right to have some privacy. This means that they have the right to be on their own if they want to be or to not have people there while they are talking to people in their cubicle. For example if a patient is getting changed then they have the right to get dressed while there is no-one there with them. For example if they are getting changed and they are a female and the doctor treating them is a male then they would need to allow them to get changed alone and then examine them.

Or if they are being treated then they would need to make sure that they allow them to have the curtain closed and they should be able to have treatment without people seeing them. Another thing is that they are allowed to have access to their own information. This means that if there is a record kept of them then they should be able to see it and read it. For example if there is a patient and they have notes on the end of their bed then they should have the right to look at the notes that are their about them.

For example if a patient said that they wanted their family to have a look at their files/notes then they should be allowed and they shouldn’t refuse them to if they have permission also if the patient has files and wants to see them then they need to make sure that they allow them to. Responsibilities of the workers- hospital. So that the service users are respected then they have to make sure that they allow their opinions and choices to be heard and they also need to make sure that they allow them to do what they want to do if that is part of their beliefs or something that they want to do.

So that they service users are treated equally and not discriminated against they need to make sure that they follow the promote the equality of opportunity this means that they have to make sure that they treat people the same and it does not matter if they are from a different country or if they are from a different culture they should still be able to have access to the same quality of care as every one else.

So that the service users have some privacy they need to make sure that they give them some privacy while they are in the hospital for example if there was a patient and they were getting undressed and then into a robe they would need to make sure that the curtains were pulled across and they allow the to get undressed where no-one is watching them another thing is that if they were examining them then they would need to make sure that the curtain was pulled across so that there was no other patients that could see them.

So that the service users are allowed to access their own information they need to make sure that they follow freedom of information act 2005 this means that if they have any information about them stored then they would need to make sure that they patient could look at it because it is about them. And if they did not let them look at it then it would not be giving them the right and they would not be following the acts rules.

And although they try their hardest to make sure that they follow their all of their responsibilities they sometimes get things wrong and do not follow their responsibilities which breaks the rights of the service users. service users rights- respite they have the right to be respected this means that they have the right to be treated the same as every one else and how they want to be treated for example if they only wanted to have help getting dressed by a female carer then they need to respect that and make sure that they have they chance for that to happen.

For example if you had a person and they didn’t want to eat meat while they were staying there then they would need to make sure that they respected that and not give them any food that contains meat. Another thing is that they should be able to communicate in a way that they want to. for example if there is someone there that can talk but they feel more comfortable talking in sign language then they have to respect that and make sure that they have an opportunity to communicate like that.

Another thing is that you might have a person that is deaf and they might not want to use sign language but they might just want to write everything down so they would have to make sure that they are allowed to do this and the person that is caring for them should communicate back in a way that they would prefer. Another thing is that that they should be allowed to see their files. This means that if they have a record or care plan for them then they should have the chance to see it if they would like to and they should not stop them from looking at it if they want to.

For example if there is someone staying there and they wanted to make sure that they are allowed to access their files because the right to information act states that any person that has files kept about them should be allowed to access them. Another thing is that they have the right to be treated in a dignified way. This means that they should not be treated in a way that might cause them distress. for example if there is a care getting a service user dressed then they would not take all of their clothes off and leave them they would make sure that they are covered over a little bit so that it does not distress them.

Responsibilities of the workers-respite So that the service users are respected then they have to make sure that they allow their opinions and choices to be heard and they also need to make sure that they allow them to do what they want to do if that is part of their beliefs or something that they want to do. So that the service user has the right to communicate in a way that they want to then they should be able to communicate in sign language or just talk normally then they need to provide support that will help them to communicate and they have to respect their choice and allow them to make that decision.

So that the service users rights are there they have to be able to be treated in a dignified way they have to make sure that they don’t cause them any distress or cause them any harm which might effect them when they go back home also that have to make sure that they allow them to make their own choices and make sure that they are allowed their opportunity for them to happen. And although they try their hardest to make sure that they follow their all of their responsibilities they sometimes get things wrong and do not follow their responsibilities which breaks the rights of the service users.
