Rhetorical Analysis Of Narrative Essay

Categories: Rhetoric

We use rhetorical situations and rhetorical appeals every day to be able to communicate with one another. Rhetorical situations are the exigence that impels the writer to enter the conversation and knowing the writer’s goal or purpose, connecting with the audience as well. Rhetorical appeals are ethos, pathos, and logos in which helps the writer convince the reader with emotions, credibility, and facts. In my narrative essay, I talked about the two identities that have made me the person I am today.

In this essay, I will analyze my narrative essay to find the rhetorical situations and Rhetorical appeals I used to explain my two identities. While analyzing my narrative essay I used rhetorical strategies and appeals like purpose, message, and audience and pathos.

In my narrative essay, I was trying to accomplish for my audience to learn about my two identities and understand what struggles I went through to define who I am.  My audience was a professor, classmates, and family.

When reading you are connecting with the person who wrote the essay because you are reading trying to understand the concept of what type of message I’m trying to transmit. Some ways I definitely did connect with my audience is when I use emotions they will understand the deeper meaning why I felt a certain way, for example, when I said “ I was the worst daughter for putting my parents in pain “ because I know my audience would not ever want to cause pain to their parents so there understand how I felt.

The 3 types of audience that I mention I connected with them differently because my family was involved and they can connect when I tell my story. Connecting with the professor and classmates id different because they have to find credibility in what i\'m saying or why I feel a certain way.

Another rhetorical strategy I used when writing my essay was purpose and message to be able to send a message and persuade that you can change into a better person as I did,  just because you had a rough past that does not define you for the rest of your life and that you will be able to change and prove everyone wrong as I did. It was definitely not easy and felt like giving up all the time because of the damage I made in my family and knew no one would understand my behavior and wouldn’t believe in me changing. My message is relevant because this happens to a lot of people from our community who start hanging out with the wrong people realizing that they want to change.
In addition to rhetorical strategies, I used pathos in which a quality that evokes pity or sadness. Throughout my story, I showed a lot of emotion talking about the events that happen during middle school and started becoming rebellious and explain the way I felt why I probably acted like I did and explained “I was overweight going into middle school I was so insecure about the way I looked. I was always so sad and angry at everyone because I wasn’t happy with who I was.” let the reader know how I was feeling before acting rebellious. I also stated how I felt after everything that happened and how it affected my family with the choices I made. How as a daughter I felt “ I was the worst daughter ever for putting my parents through that pain.” This example states how I felt overall telling my story.
Overall analyzing my narrative essay helped me understand my story from a different perspective and made me realize the rhetorical situations and appeals I used while telling my story without knowing. My message overall in my narrative essay was that you are able to change to become a better person. It doesn\'t matter what you had to go through to be where you are now just prove everyone wrong as I did.
