Imagine yourself being bullied by a group of people and nobody liked you. What would you feel? Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck. The novella took place during the Great Depression and it was about two men, George and Lennie trying to find jobs so they can achieve their American Dream. During that time, people had hard times finding jobs and the worst thing about the Great Depression was segregation.
Some people were segregated during that time.
In this novella, we see examples of discrimination due to personality, gender, age, and racial problems. Lennie was a big guy but had a child-like personality, he was treated unequally due to his lack of intelligence. Curley’s wife was the only woman on the ranch where George and Lennie worked, she was treated differently because she was a woman.
Candy was old and disabled so nobody liked him. Crooks, the stable buck at the ranch, was treated unevenly since he was African American.
Lennie was a big guy but had a child-like personality. Lennie was not bright and he couldn’t make right decisions. This was why most people at the ranch did not like him. Lennie was called a crazy bastard by the others and he was excluded from activities the other men do.
