In The Shining, the film is divided into, yet again, three parts: the normal 'Jack Torrance', the 'Jack Torrance' that is losing his mind, and the 'Jack Torrance' that has lost his mind.

In Full Metal Jacket, the film is also divided into three segments, which seems to be a running theme in Stanley Kubrick's films.

The first segment is at the Army training boot camp, the second segment is the stationing of the troops in Vietnam, and the third segment is the quest to find and kill a sniper who is killing of the soldiers one at a time.
