President George W. Bush Pushing the United Nations to Go to War With Iraq

In the recent weeks, U.S. President George W. Bush has been pushing for the United Nations to go to war with Iraq. Bush feels that it is time to neutralize a threat before there is definetally a more serious threat upon our world. The United Nations have not made the decisions on weather or not we should attack Iraq and begin the third World War. After witnessing the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001, I know what a heartless, cowardly and powerful their country really is.

I think that we should go to war with Iraq because we need to disarm Suddam Husseinns’ arsenal of weapons of mass destruction before he has another opportunity to destroy more innocent people.

Iraq’s military possesses an extremely large arsenal of biological and chemical weapons that I’m sure they intend on using. Iraq forces are experienced in the deployment of chemical or biological weapons in the artillery they use. Such weapons are mustard gas, nerve agents, and botulinium toxins.

The still have some long range scud missiles to deploy these agents around the Middle East or at military institutions. Also, Iraq has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle with a range of about 300 miles. If troops were to deploy this vehicle, they could spray agents into the oxygen supply of several countries and military bases (Barnett). In turn, this would definitely cause chaos in the Middle Eastern countries as well as cause damage to U.S. military.

There is also a high possibility of terrorists gaining control of these weapons.

There is no doubt that the Al Qaeda or other terrorist groups would love to deploy these weapons of mass destruction. If these weapons fell into the hands of terrorists, they could disperse them into large cities using crop- duster airplanes. The prospect of an anthrax attack was investigated in the 1990’s by the US Office of Technol Assessment. They concluded that 100 kilograms of virulent anthrax effectively dispersed at night over Washington D.C. could cause between one and three million deaths (Bioterrisiom). Crop- dusters can carry up to twice that capacity of chemicals.

Most importantly, we need to go to war to defend ourselves against the harm that Iraq will produce if will prolong this attack any longer. In a situation like this, we can’t wait for them to attack first because by then, it will be too late. We need to take action to neutralize the threat before it presents itself. Perhaps if we do not go to war, Suddam will have more time to organize his next attack and it will be too late for us to defend ourselves. A professor of international security at the University of Bradford says, “A declaration of war is the only act that can commit us to our fight over the long term. A declaration would clearly define our enemies and warn every nation and individual that to help our enemies is to wage war against America” (the Nation). W must stand up and defend ourselves from Iraq’s terrible threat. America is the greatest world power and it is our responsibility to free the world of such problems.

Iraq has control of some of the most deadly weapons of mass destruction and they are not afraid to use them. We have to stand up for ourselves as well as the rest of the world to put an end to this chaos before Iraq gets out of control. If we procrastinate it will be too late to save all the innocent lives that could have been saved. It is in mankind’s best interest to go to war with Iraq and all its allies.
