The McDonald brothers made the first McDonald's restaurant in 1945, the brothers designed the fast-food hamburger in an attempt to streamline the process od making food, and to reduce the cost of production. There was no need for waitresses, so it costed less to operate. By 1951, McDonald's grossed $275,000, which was a lot of money for a small restaurant. by 1960 there were 100 franchises across the US. By 1990, fast food had taken over the American landscape with 11,800 McDonald's, 6,298 Burger Kings, and 3,721 Wendy's. Since the fast food industry started, American's health has been going down, over the last 25 years, people have come to take more calories from burgers, fries.

pizza, and sweets then we have from home. The US government has done surveys from 1977-1996, and they have found out that more and more Americans ate their daily foods in the form of snacks and fast foods. the survey also shows that Americans prefer snacks then a real meal.

Daily fast food consumption is very bad for the body.

Dr. Ahima Kant of the city University of New York says "Energy-dense,nutrient-poor foods now account for more than 30 percent of American children's energy(calorie) intake." on any day, over a quarter of all Americans will eat at a fast-food restaurant. with fast-food restaurants everywhere, Americans spend money on these foods more than they do on computers, education, or new cars combined. A generation ago, three-quarters of the money spent on foods were ingredients to make food at home, now more than half the money spent on food is fast food or foods eaten outside of the home.

In the 1950s, less than 10% of Americans were obese or overweight, by 1975, which was when McDonald's introduced the drive-thru, the rate was 15%. since then, the overweight population has grown to 32%.

A lot of the fast-food consumed contains meat, and a lot of fast food eating every day, which means factories have to produce meat, eggs and dairy products at factory farms. In factory farms, things can get cruel, animals are forced to endure inhumane and cruel conditions that deprive of all of their basic instincts. Farmers produce a lot of meat by feeding animals hormones that increase growth, milk and egg productions that can lead to a painful inflammation called mastitis, as well as crippling and debilitating conditions for poultry. In the fast-food industry, profit margins are slim and volume is everything, which means workers have to kill more animals in less amount of time. Most factories operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week, slaughtering and processing hundreds of thousands of animals every hour.

Fast food damaging the body and animals are nothing compared to the damage it's doing to the environment. The things being done to Earth could stay forever, and everything that lives will suffer. Fast foods like drinks, chips, candy, and other snacks require a lot of packaging. Fast-food packaging counts for an estimated 40 percent of all litter, with styrofoam being the most common food waste. Even a small burger can produce a lot of greenhouse gas, the resources needed to make just a normal cheeseburger, from growing the wheat to make the buns, to feeding the animals, then their slaughter, and even the energy required to pickle the cucumbers, the resulting consumption is phenomenal, converting to CO2 emissions of somewhere between 1-3.5kg, and that's not even taking account the methane produced by the cow. With all the pathogens, hormones, drugs, and fertilizers that are used to produce fast food seeping into our water supplies, water quality has suffered dramatically. Outbreaks of waterborne illness including E. Coli, marine life dead zones, and lots of other hazards that can be all contributed to fast food.

Even though fast food is obviously bad for the world, sixty-eight million customers in one hundred nineteen countries are eating it daily. Some people argue that fast-food restaurants provide jobs that require no skill, which is true, but all the bad stuff it's doing to the world might not be worth the hours if the minimum wage, in conclusion, fast food can hurt the body, torture animals, and pollute the Earth.
