Nature Is Everything to Us but We Are Destroying It

Categories: Planet In Crisis

Nature is everything to us especially me. When I was younger and living in Somalia, everything that we did was based on this notion of using nature to survive. I remember the house that I was born in; it was a dome-shaped collapsible hut made from poles covered by hides woven fiber mats or sometimes cloth or tin. My only thought about nature was that it was just nature. I remember working at my dad's farm and walking down to the closest river no matter how far it was just so that I could collect some water that would help the plants grow.

Agricultural was the way that we survived in Somalia because of the fact that if there were not any plants for the animals to feed on, as well as water for the animals to be hydrated then it would be impossible to eat the animals as they would die of starvation. I would go outside and play soccer and come back when I was tired and repeat that process every day, but what if the next day that grass wasn't there for me to play in.

I never thought that the fact that I was able to play outside in this wonderful grass was because of nature.

The reason why nature is important is because it is how we get water power and oxygen from the environment. Nature is the most important and integral part of the lives of everyone. For example, nature is everything which surrounds us like water, air, land, sky, fire, river, forests, animals, birds, plants, sun, moon, stars, sea, lake, rain, thunder, storm, etc.

Nature cares for us; it provides us a protective layer around us to prevent from the damages.

Nature is everything to us but we are constantly destroying it. If humans continue to utilize earth natural habitats constantly draining their resources life on the planet will eventually be wiped out. For example, The destruction of wild habitat for farming logging and development has resulted in the start of what many scientists consider the sixth mass extinction of life to occur in the earth four billion year history. (Carrington). African elephants are still being poached in large numbers. Tens of thousands of elephants are being killed every year for their ivory tusks. This is just many examples of circumstances that cause animals to be extinct. As animals are killed and their habitats are destroyed, our world is made poorer.

With every passing day, it's getting clearer that the leading destroyer of nature is humans and its activities. Humans negatively impact the environment through industrial pollutants dumped in waterways, destroying forest, burning of fossil fuels affecting climate change etc. The deforestation of trees not only lessens the amount of carbon stored, but it also releases carbon dioxide into the air (Bradford). This means that atmosphere would get depleted in oxygen and enriched in carbon dioxide. Also, the pollution of waterways effects all of us. For instance, there would be no drinking water, along with the fact that the fish(food source) would be poisoned. Furthermore, this would not only affect humans who eat fish, but also any of the birds that also eat the fish.

How Damage of nature will be to humanity; in other words, if there is no water, there is no life. Where damage was done to nature, there is corresponding damage to something that keeps us alive. We are the reason for all the problems that plague our planet today. Yet we are the only ones who can do something about it and save life on earth while it's still possible. Nature provides us with all the resources to live here. It gives us water to drink, pure air to breathe, food to eat, and land to stay on. Here some might think that nature is like a god taking care of us, holding all 7.7 billion of us humans. It is time for us to start looking after nature instead of destroying it.
