My Personal Experience of Feeling Real Fear During an Incident at the Age of Six

Nine years ago I was six years old; it was a hot and humid summer day and I was speeding down the road on my cousin's skateboard. There have been many incidents in my life that have changed me. This incident was a special one it had the longest lasting and greatest impact on me. I believe every event in someone's life, while some people may perceive this event as insignificant, can be important enough to someone to change that person in some way.

This incident was very significant to me, probably because it happened to me at such a young age. I was six years old and it was in early august. My grandmom was visiting my house, I don't remember why she did, and she brought my cousin Jeffery. He brought his skateboard and was skating outside of my house; this intrigued me and I went outside to watch. When I opened the door I the warm air rushed in, the humidity hitting me like a wall.

There was the thick scent of fire in the air. I went down the stairs and ran over to my cousin, I practically begged him to teach me how to skateboard. He refused, but then I told my grandmom and she told him he had to.

We were in the middle of the street and I felt something bad was going to happen but in my excitement ignored it. He showed me how to stand and then said "okay now you try remembering your right foot in of your left and putting your feet on the screws".

I stood on it as he said and asked "like this?". He said "yes" then when I asked how to stop he said "you don't" pushed me and laughed. This sent me flying down my road; I was so scared I thought I was going to die, when I was towards the bottom I jumped off, and sprained my wrist. I picked up the board and wouldn't give it back that ended up being my first skateboard. This was my first time I truly feared for my life.

This whole incident changed me for the better and also taught me a few lessons. I feel as though this has changed me to take risks, before this incident took place I always feared for the worse and never took risks. And now today I'm a bit of a daredevil I take risk for the thrill, but something else I've acquired from this was a high sense of mortality. I love the trillю

I get but I know my limits and I don't push them too hard so that I get hurt. This incident also lead to me to not trust a lot of people. I have noticed that, that is a bittersweet effect it had on me, I only completely trust one other person other than my family. I think if this never happened I would still be afraid of taking risks and would be completely different, and in my opinion so much more boring.

Everyone has at least one event in their life that's changed them. These changes can be seen as good or bad, and are seen differently by the person they happened to and the people around this person. My incident resulted in me having trust issues which is a bad thing, but with me taking risks which is a good thing. In my case the incident I chose to write about changed me in both good and bad ways.
