My Joys and Pains in my SPES

Categories: Pain

School year ends, different plans comes our way. Vacation here, gimmicks there, or even party everywhere. These are few of the things which drive the satisfaction of students when school is over. But practical students have better idea of spending their vacation wisely and this is to apply for a summer job. Special Program for the Employment of Students or better known as the “SPES Summer job Program” is a program spearheaded by our ever-dynamic Governor Edgar M. Chatto. This program is yearly done as a help for those poor but deserving students who wished to have a part on financial assistance on their studies.

Good thing about this program is that, it is expanded to have more beneficiaries. So it is in this line that there will be more beneficiaries for this year compared last year.

There were greater number of students who exam and lucky for those who passed and qualify all the requirements and qualifications. Having the guts is not enough to apply for this program.

You must have the eagerness to do the task given whatever it takes. As the saying goes, “Many are called but only few are chosen,” one must accept the challenge because not all who exam able to passed and not all who passed, qualified. On the day of the exam, I was a little bit nervous and to be honest, I doubt if I will be able to pass the exam because that was not the type of exam I expected. On the most awaited judgement day for the result, I was truly surprised when I read my name on the bulletin board, it only means, I passed the exam.

With the help of my mother dear, I was able to comply all the requirements.

Orientation day came, the same day for the start of our summer job. I met some of my friends but the crowd was filled mostly with new faces on that day. As we settle down, we listened to the short talk of our Governor and followed by the signing of contract. We were assigned to different offices. It brought me so much happiness when I was assigned in the same office where I was assigned before I was transferred to the Office of the Provincial Agriculture. It was actually my second time around here in the Social Economic and Environmental Management Office (SEEM-Extension) and my second time as a SPES as well. Though I am not new in the office, still I managed to act as if I am new here. Not because I want to please everyone but because I want to have equal treatment towards the old and new SPES in the office. We were 7 SPES in the office coming from different Universities.

As time goes by, we were able to build such great relationship with each other. We were like brothers and sisters sharing whatever we had. Everything runs smoothly that guarantee us some memories to reckon when we part ways. We do paper works, encoding and lot more. But the happy moments had changed into something we both expected. The same scenario happened; 3 or my Co-SPES will be transferred again to the OPA. The scene was very dramatic when one of my Co-SPES cried in front of us. I know the feeling because I experienced the same thing. But then, life wouldn’t end there, they able to mingle with others and meet new friends. We just have to get used to it and continue our lives. That was only one of my pains in my summer job because it is more than a pain to realize that whether we like it or not, this program will end for this year and have to live life separately with our newly met friends.

Now, the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) summer job 2012 has come to its end. We will be spending our lives part ways. But rest assured, this wouldn’t change everything what we had build. This program serves as our training ground for us students who aim for a job. We will be bringing all the teachings we learned in this summer. Hope to be part of this program again. As long as the memories remain cherished, it would surely make it better.

To Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, thank you for the great opportunity, it is really a big help to us.
To my brothers and sisters in the office, thank you for all the teachings, until next time!
To my SPES friends, hope to see you all next summer!
