My Favorite Basketball Player Shaquille O'Neal

Today I would love to talk about my favorite basketball player ever, Shaquille O’Neal. Shaquille was a NBA player from 1992 to 2011. Sadly he was retired before I really got into basketball. Many people may know him as “Shaq”, “Shaq Diesel”, and “Big Daddy”. He will probably be my favorite basketball player because he was a huge dude and could break backboards. Shaq was known to break a few basketball standards in his day. He was probably the worst free throw shooter the NBa has ever seen.

To really understand more about Shaq, we would have to go back to where it all began, his early years.

Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal was born March 6, 1972 Newark, New Jersey. His parents names’ were Lucille O’Neal and Toney O’Neal. While shaq was still a teeny baby his father, Toney, was arrested due to drug possession. His dad gave his parental rights to Shaq’s stepfather Phillip A. Harrison. He later moved to Texas to go to high school.

Shaq went to high school at Robert G. Cole High and later went to LSU. Shaq studied business for his major. Shaquille O’Neal was so good at basketball in high school that he got college player of the year. Shaq later dropped out in 1992 to pursue his career in the NBA.

Shaq was picked up by the Orlando Magic, he was the first overall pick. During his 19 year career he played for six teams. Most basketball players I know haven’t played for six teams because that’s a lot of moving around.

Shaq won the Rookie of the Year award in the 1992-1923 season. He then led the Magic to the 1995 NBA finals. After a wonderful and successful four years Shaq signed as a free agent with the LA Lakers. He and Kobe Bryant led the team to three championships in a row in 2000, 2001, and 2002. I’ve done some research and only two other teams have done that, that’s pretty spectacular if you ask me. He was traded of to the Miami Heat in 2004. He won his amazing fourth NBA championship in 2006. In the middle of the 2006-2007 he was shipped off to the Phoenix Suns and after about a season and a half with them he went to the Cleveland Cavaliers which was the season that Lebron was playing. I would have rooted for them all the way if I wasn’t so young. Then, finally in the 2010 to 2011 season he wound up with the Boston Celtics. In 2011 he sadly retired for good.

Some accomplishments I would like to share with you is that Shaq has made is the MVP award in the 1999-2000 season, rookie of the year award in the 1992-1993 season, fifteen all-star game picks, and of three of those he got the MVP award. He better have a big trophy case to fit all of those. Shaq has also won three Final MVP awards. He is one of three players who have won a NBA MVP, All-Star game MVP, and a Finals MVP in the same year. Shaq was elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball hall of fame and also into the FIBA hall of fame.

I chose this person because he is my favorite basketball player, even over LeBron James and Donovan Mitchell. Now that is saying a lot for a boy that lived in cleveland for 8 years and has lived in Utah for a long time now. I like him because he is a cool guy. He has podcasts and tv shows. Shaq is also a fun loving guy that likes to laugh. That is why I chose this great guy to be my topic.

Before I close this on this topic I’d like to list some fun facts about Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal. He has released four rap albums under the name “Shaq Diesel”. I really recommend them they are super upbeat and cool. Shaq’s first album amazingly went platinum. He has appeared in multiple films including “Blue Chips” and the more recent film “Uncle Drew”. He has starred in his own reality shows which are “Shaq’s big challenge” and “Shaq vs.”. He has his own podcast that he hosts called “The Big Podcast With Shaq”. He is also the general manager of Kings Guard Gaming over NBA 2k League. That’s cool that he manages a video game and he used to be a basketball player

Now I have to close on this topic. I could write on and on if I didn’t have a due date but all good things must come to an end. Overall Shaq has been pretty successful over the years and has his own podcast and tv shows. Like i’ve said a lot in my previous paragraphs I really like Shaq as a person and as a basketball player. He has really inspired me to write on him and I hope you learned as much as I did.
