My Desire to Become a Newspaperman

“Self-Belief and hard work will always earn you success” Is what my father quoted me... And it was only in 1984 to where I was 17 not having any self-belief in what work really meant… It was really hard for me to earn money and to get a job because for me getting a house it would cost me a fortune! As I was trying to find a job I got my own apartment and I needed a well-paid job to pay my rent… As I'm riding my bike I see a wanted sign for newspaper boys I was nearly a young adult so I still had that energy… I asked the manager that I would like to be a newspaper boy and he said to me.

.. “Do you have what it takes to get up at sunrise throwing newspapers non stop?” I said to him “I'm willing to be a newspaper boy no matter what time my schedule is!” I shouldn't have said that because as soon as I did the manager gave me a full-time job! The manager told me that I would be getting more money than the other workers working in his business but it would take a lot of energy to finish just one day…

The next day comes by and It's the first day of my job being a newspaper boy and I look at the clock and I'm already late for one of the easiest jobs that I can get in my town! As I go to my manager's office he looks at me strangely and he doesn't look happy! So I told him “Sorry I'm late!” And he tells me “Don't apologize, this would always happen to the new guys, just don't be late!” So I went off to a slightly bad neighborhood and it wasn’t as pleasant… Because as I am throwing newspapers house after house a gang comes to me telling me, “Give me your bike.

” I, of course, told him “No!” And as I continue riding my bike and throwing newspapers from houses over houses they suddenly start to chase me! And I quickly started to hate my job as I was going through pesky neighborhoods... A few days come by and my manager wants me at his office, and as I’m sitting there he looks at me, and then looks at my information on how early I've been and says “You've been impressing me since you got here and I've made a decision to give you a promotion!” He added, “It also raises your salary and would you like to know what your job is?”

I was shocked I couldn't believe that I got promoted in just a few weeks, so I, of course, said “yes!” So he told me that I would be a production artist with a huge responsibility and he said that I would have a day off for today but tomorrow would be even harder… I hardly even knew what a production artist does which really scared me into thinking that I was going to get fired so the next day I'm in my new office and my manager says to me “Do you know what a production artist does?” I said in an honest way… “No sir, to be honest, I hardly have any experience in being a production artist..” And the manager gave me a chance to see on what I could do and he also told me that he would teach me on how to be a production artist and I was so surprised on how I got a chance on being a production artist since it was almost close to being a manager… So I had that encouragement on trying my best to at least get promoted… And now my only goal was to get promoted by being a manager and being a successful worker! But my manager had a terrible disease and he couldn't work at all and so I was wondering what he actually had and when he came back to my office he told me “I have some good news and some bad news…

” I wanted to get straight into the good news so I quickly told him “I would like to hear the good news first…” He said well me and the other managers were thinking of promoting you into a manager since I have to retire being a manager because what we see is a young self-believable man urging to get things done…” I said well what's the bad news? He said someone is going to take your place on being a production artist but I really didn't care since I heard that I was going to be a manager so he needed my approval of getting promoted so I said of course! After my first day of being a manager, I will still know those people who have encouraged me on having self-belief in myself...
