Methods and Procedure
This chapter presents the methods to be used in the study. It also describes the subjects of the study, the instruments used, the procedure of the data gathering, and statistical statement treatment of the data.
This study will determine the effectiveness of Advanced Trigonometric Functions Angle Converter on mobile phones in High School students by comparing the students’ performance in their examination and evaluation scores and the teachers’ evaluation.
Method of Research Used
The descriptive, Math tests and survey methods of research will be used in this study because it involves the procedures of fact finding with interpretation, data collection, probability, controlled observation and results of current conditions.
This study is either qualitative or quantitative. It is qualitative because it involves the characteristics about the Angle converter. While, it is also quantitative because it involves the computation and tabulation of numerical data in the results of the Math examination about the six trigonometric topics: sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant and cotangent.
Subjects/Respondents of the Study
In this tests study, 10 regular classes (sections) of Meycauayan College in Annex Campus and Lord’s Angels Montessori School will be selected to participate in the process. Students will receive a survey questionnaire and examination while the teachers will receive a survey questionnaire only.
The subjects and respondents of this study will be the Third Year or Fourth Year High School students of Meycauayan College in Annex Campus and Lord’s Angels Montessori School in Malolos. A total of ten sections will be composed to answer the two research instruments. They will be handled by the members of the researcher or the Math teachers. One member of researcher will go to the Meycauayan and the other members will go to Malolos to start the study. Also, the respondents of this study will be the five Math teachers to answer the survey questionnaire to know their judgment and opinion about the advantages and disadvantages of the Angle converter on mobile phones.
In Survey questionnaire, the respondents will rate the question in 5 if they will strongly agree, 4 if they will agree, 3 if they will in the middle, 2 if they will not agree and 1 if they will strongly not agree. While in math tests, it compose of multiple choice such as A, B, C, D and E but it has the correct and wrong answer.
Sampling Technique Used
Convenience sampling will be used in the research. Since the topic is all about the lessons of Geometry and Trigonometry, it will use the Third Year and Fourth Year High School students as the subjects and respondents.
The samples selected on the basis of their knowledge, connection and judgment about the angle converter applications. The researcher wants to know the possible solutions for the improvements of the students’ academics especially in Geometry and Trigonometry.
Research Instruments Used
The following instruments will be used in the conduct of the research:
1. Math tests. These examination will evaluate the quantitatively the students’ performance in where the six Trigonometric functions they hard to answer or not.
2. Questionnaire. The questionnaire will be used to know the students’ and teachers’ decision and opinion about what kind of effectiveness of using Angle converter on mobile phone in or out of school.
Validation of Instruments
The selected expert Mathematics teachers and the researcher will validate the examinations about the six trigonometric functions and questionnaire for the corrections and suggestions that will incorporated in the draft for the next stage of validation. The one section of students and some available teachers who will not be included as the respondents will be asked to answer the survey questionnaires. Their responses will be tested for reliability. While in math tests, the teachers will not be a part of the respondents.
Procedure of Data Gathering
In Survey questionnaire, it has no correct answers neither wrong answer. This study will consist of three stages:
Stage I deals with all about the converter angle applications. The importance and effectiveness of converter, and the uses of mobile phones to the students. It deals with the construction and validation of the questionnaire which is written by the researcher.
Stage II deals with the actual conduct of the study using the survey. The decisions of the respondents if they will agree or not in the Angle Converter on mobile phone. It also involves the suggestions on the interface if the respondents agreed on the converter.
Stage III deals with the results, tabulating, analyzing and interpreting of the data gathered using several statistical tools.
In Math tests, it has a correct answer and wrong answer. The importance of this procedure is to know where six trigonometric functions topic that students’ fail in Mathematics. This study will consist of three stages:
Stage I deals with the construction and content validation of training quizzes which is doing by the Math faculty members or the members of the researcher about the six trigonometric functions. It composed of multiple choice which answers in the question about their conversion, description and formula.
Stage II deals with the checking of the answers and establishing comparatibility, mean, and standard deviation between the six trigonometric functions. It will know the results on what topic the students’ fail.
Stage III deals with the results, tabulating, analyzing and interpreting of data gathered as to compare in the statistical tools.
