Rebecca Skloot is an American science writer and journalist. She is best known for her book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which tells the story of Henrietta Lacks, a black woman who died of cervical cancer in 1951, and her cells, which were taken without her knowledge or consent and used in medical research. The book was a New York Times bestseller and won several awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Rebecca Skloot’s writing is compelling and eye-opening. She has a gift for making complex topics accessible to a wide audience, and her passion for justice is evident on every page. I was particularly struck by her discussion of the Tuskegee syphilis study, and the way she humanized the victims of this horrific experiment. Skloot is a masterful storyteller, and I believe her work will continue to inspire readers for many years to come.
