Michael Shaara was an American author who wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Killer Angels. The novel, which was published in 1974, is a historical fiction account of the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War. Shaara was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1928 and died in 1988. He was a professor of English at Florida State University and wrote several other novels, including The Broken Place and The Last Full Measure.
Michael Shaara’s novel The Killer Angels is a classic example of historical fiction. Shaara does an excellent job of creating a believable and compelling story about the Battle of Gettysburg. His characters are richly drawn and the battle scenes are vividly portrayed. The novel is a great read for anyone interested in the Civil War or in historical fiction in general.
