Kiran Desai is an Indian-American novelist. She is the daughter of Anita Desai, a well-known writer in her own right. Kiran Desai was born in India but moved to the United States when she was a child. She was educated at Harvard University and Columbia University. Her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, was published in 1998. It was followed by The Inheritance of Loss in 2006, for which she won the Man Booker Prize.
