Emma Bovary is the central character in Gustave Flaubert’s novel Madame Bovary. Emma is a beautiful and naïve young woman who married Charles Bovary in an attempt to escape her boring, small-town life. However, she quickly becomes bored with her new life and embarks on a series of affairs in an attempt to find excitement and passion. Emma’s actions eventually lead to her downfall, and she dies a tragic death.
