Edward Morgan Forster was an English novelist, short story writer, essayist and broadcaster. He is known for his novels Howards End (1910) and A Passage to India (1924).nForster was born in London in 1879, the only child of Alice Clara “Lily” (née Whichelo) and Edward Morgan Llewelyn Forster, an architect. His father died when he was a year old, and his mother moved the family to Tonbridge, Kent, where he was raised.nForster was educated at Tonbridge School and King’s College, Cambridge. He joined the Liberal Party and became active in politics, but he was more interested in literature and writing.nForster’s first novel, Where Angels Fear to Tread (1905), was published when he was 26. It was followed by a string of successful novels, including A Room with a View (1908), Howards End (1910) and A Passage to India (1924).nForster was a homosexual, but he did not openly discuss his sexuality until late in life. He lived with his partner, the journalist Bob Buckingham, for many years.nForster was made a Companion of Honour in 1953 and a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1969. He died in 1970, aged 91.
