Definition of Good Life
My definition of a good life is being able accept yourself, starting every day with a positive attitude, letting go of negativity and grudges we hang on to, spending time with your loved ones, appreciating the blessings that surround you and worrying less about what your life lacks. I believe having a good life goes beyond materialistic luxuries; having a big house, a nice car, and lots of money.
Living a good life starts with loving and accepting yourself. Accepting yourself as you are and coming to terms with those aspects of yourself that you cannot change is one of the main characteristics of living a good life. When you have self-respect, a positive self-image and unconditional self-acceptance, you are already living a good life. Social media has a major impact in the way that we view ourselves, we try hard to achieve “the perfect life” and looks that we see people portray online but that isn’t right because must accept our imperfections and understand that we are all different. Self-love is the root of all love – if we don’t love ourselves, we cannot fully give love to others.
Ways to Live a Good Life
Letting go of anger and grudges is another way of living a good life. We tend to hold on to negative thoughts that only cause more stress in our everyday lives. Practicing forgiveness gives our emotional health stability. Deep emotional healing can help the most emotionally damaged. It is important to focus on the present and work towards the future because holding on to those negative feelings of bad occurrences in our past only keeps us from moving on.
For me, the most important part of living a good life is being able to spend time with my loved ones. I don’t see my parents and siblings often, but I truly cherish the moments that we get to spend together – they are my rock and motivate me to keep moving forward. I am not married or have kids, but I do have two dogs that I love with all my life. They are whom I wake up to in the morning, and the last I see before I close my eyes at night. Their companionship is truly priceless.
Being able to wake up every day in the morning is already a blessing. My day consists of a full-time job, school, working out and spending time with my dog – I truthfully consider this as living a good life. I focus daily on becoming a better me, being only better than who I was yesterday. My focus is also on what I want to achieve as a person, career-wise, in school, and in the long-run in life. Although, everyone has a different meaning for living a “good life”, this is what it means to me.
