Inter connectedness Essay
Society is seamless, everything is connected to one another and everything that occurs within the life of an individual is related to the present sociological realities of that person; wherein the person is affecting the environment and is being affected by the environment. We may often think that the world revolves around us, or that our life is separate from the society, but this is only a myopic view of life. Man is a social animal hence it is inevitable that we relate to other people and since society is made up of social subsystems that define our roles we are a part of the complex puzzle of life.
Mills (1959) said that to be able to distinguish and understand the link between patterns of their own lives and social changes possess the sociological imagination. In examining my life using the systems theory, I began to see the interconnectedness of the individual and the society. I have been working for some time now and I often remember asking myself what I wanted to do with my life, then opportunities have come my way which have led me to pursue my dreams, but without the interdependence of social expectations and social roles, I might not have been moved to acting on it.
It is almost mandatory in our society that in order for a person to be successful in life and in his/her work, one must have a degree. The current changes in the workforce and organizations have led me to equip myself with new skills and knowledge, without which I may have not aspired for new learning. And because of the changes in the way people view education, it is becoming more important and a premium is placed on it, hence it has become more expensive and more challenging.
