In most literary works novels focus on male protagonist who have masculine traits. Characters like Dorthy In The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by L. Frank Baum contrast this particle view. In the novel a young girl named Dorthy from Kansas is swept up by a tornado and ends up in an unrecognizable city and cannot find her way home.
On her journey to find her way home she meets characters like the scarecrow, the tin man, and the cowardly lion that join her on her journey to meet someone named Oz, who is able grant your deepest desire.
On their quest they must complete task given to them by Oz in order for their wishes to be fulfilled.
The journey Dorthy has with the male characters around her shows us that Dorthy is a female protagonist who leads and uplifts the male characters around her, which inspires women in society to follow in her footsteps.
First, we see how great of a female leader Dorothy is.
Whenever Dorothy and the other characters come across danger she is the one to stand up for them and help no matter how dangerous the situation is.
This is seen when Dorothy slaps the cowardly lion on the nose to protect Toto, she tells the lion “ Don’t you dare bite Toto! You ought to be ashamed of yourself…” we seen how brave Dorothy in these frightening situations and no one said anything to the lion other than her because they were afraid.
Being fearless and brave is not a common trait adopted by most female characters but Dorothy posses these traits making her a great feminist leader.
Another quality that made Dorthy a great leader was how helpful she is to the other characters. Throughout the novel Dorthy is very kind to everyone and is always helping people
