Impact of Oil Pulling on Body and Skin

Categories: OilSkin

Oil-pulling!!! Sounds familiar? Chances are that many of you are hearing this term for the first time. Well, it is a traditional Ayurvedic detoxifying technique that is supposed to have numerous health benefits such as give healthy teeth, make cleaner skin, and many more. Gandusha and Kavala Graha as it is called in Sanskrit; are traditional pulling practices that have different processes. In Gandusha, the mouth is filled with oil, which is held in the mouth for 3-5 minutes and then spit out.

In Kavala Graha, only a comfortable amount of oil is placed in the mouth. Then, the oil is swished inside of the mouth and in-between tooth for 5-20 minutes, gargled and spit out; both techniques are believed to cleanse the skin, teeth and, activate the digestive track. Using oil to cleanse the skin or teeth!!?? You're probably wondering how that's possible, since we usually use water for cleansing, and not oil. Let me explain.

Our mouth; considered to be the main 'Dwara' door to our body is home to all kinds of bacteria, viruses, and billions of parasites! The toxins known as 'Amanushyas' from these bodies cause all kinds of physical, mental & dental ailment to mankind.

Going deeper into the chemical components such as mouthwashes, speciality toothpastes etc. are made up of fats, as plaque is fat soluble not water.

Hence oil pulling. Traditionally only a few oils are used like virgin coconut oil or sesame oil. But, nowadays many oils are used such as lemon oils, peppermint oil or over the counter pre packaged Kavala oils.

I would recommend starting simple with coconut oil.
However, start on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. With a happy mouth there is happy belly and a happy belly sets way to a healthy body weight, hence healthy body weight = good life!!! All this from a spoon full of oil!

All you do is take about 1 tablespoon of your favorite Kavala Oil and swish it around in your mouth starting with 5 minutes the first week and slowly hiking your clock to 10-20 minutes; and then spit the oil out in the trash can. I say trash can as we all know oil is not an ingredient that can decompose when drained. Don't be surprised if you see the oil seems frothy and milky when you spit it out, this is common. You can rinse your mouth afterwards with water, salt water, brush teeth or rinse with organic mouthwash. The practice of Oil Pulling involves about 1 tablespoon of oil and a commitment from you to take care of yourself on the long run. Ayurveda is a way of life not an illness cure. Better late than never!
