Hyper TPS rough

Background The Tactical Personnel System is an automated tactical strength management system that provides the field with an application feasibility of serving as a deployment-manifesting platform for all personnel ranging from military, civilians Department of Defense Federal, non-DOD Federal, Contractors, to Foreign Nationals. Using the HyperStudio software, purpose of TPS could be solved better with the use of technology and media effectively for communication and presentation skills.

Interaction and presentation with effective communication ability is a very critical part of any military operation. Cohesiveness in the unit among troops is the most important strategy during every phase of an operation and the very responsibility of the same falls on the military commanders. The use of TPS based training helps in maintaining the required viscidity. The training process needs to be the most effective one and hyperstudio has been found to be of great usage enabling another thrust to evolve the training from simple computer-based programs to more complex but elaborated systems.

The current technique of TPS training is ineffective with reason being the submissive doctrine according to which soldiers should learn without proper real time experience through on-field training (US Dept, Dept. of Defense Dictionary, 2005). The lack of any standardized training and related instructions of a skill in the military has actually developed a situation where the military depends on passive technology instead of proper field training. Problem Definition.

The TPS though a great system for strength management but on actual ground reality suggests that the soldier’s learning process has not been greatly benefited through the use of this technology. This situation leaves a significant portion of troops lacking important skill of presentation and communication. The presentation and communication skill has been found to be of great need especially in a condition where a task is to be performed in a group. Better communication ability insures cohesiveness between various members of a unit.

The problem to be tackled is thus to determine whether the use of Hyperstudio could ensure better use of TPS as well as developing improved version of the same. Proposed solution A solution to the problem could be to provide TPS training with interactivity with hyperstudio being as a tool for better presentation and communication. This will make a complete departure from the current technique based on passive training which simply uses least interactive modules of slideshows and other visual media. This hyperstudio based interactive training will focus on field military tactics.

Here the interactivity is for increasing cohesiveness so that to ensure the use of various methods for the utilization of units in combat. The unit’s full potential can be made for complete usage through the systematic arrangement and maneuvering of units relative to each other. Educational Significance The research over here is for gaining better understanding of technology in improving the TPS system. The current TPS system requires modification and use of hyperstudio can be made for the betterment of this TPS training.

This study has its significant since its main concerns are with training that applies to the United States and other countries as well. Research Questions How can the use of Hyperstudio make the current Tactical Personnel System training more effective? This question leads to the following specific questions: 1. How much effective is the current TPS training is if the efficiency of the personnel trained with this system is compared to those with actual field experience? 2.

Would giving personnel the environment of the new interactive hyperstudio based TPS training allow them to become more efficient than those who go through passive training only? Literature Review Instruction are centered around the use of technologies as tools for accessing information and tools for expression which included using the software Hyperstudio as a means for presenting information. Targeting learners for technology training in a community of learners increased motivation to learn more about and use technology in their classrooms on the part of the teacher.

Learners’ benefits are numerous. They began to rely less on teacher direction and more on self-exploration, showed an increase in confidence, and gained technology skills which could be built upon. This literature review basically looks into various techniques that DOD has been utilized so that the efficiency of the instruction could get improved and also relevant texts about the issues surrounding learning in general. Improvements in technology have brought about major changes in the history of communication.

The advent of audio-visual means of information and communication from the present text-based stage is one of the major changes in the history of technical integration into instruction medium. Digital photography and home video production are getting popular day by day signaling this change. News sites are also moving towards presenting news with the aid of multimedia rather than only text. Computers and online devices available in all classes and not only the designated laboratories, is going to be reality.

The technology is now in a position to get integrated into the training of the military personnel. TPS is one of the many attempts. These expected developments of ICT will have a major influence on the way communication and presentation skill is being taught. Another new result of ICT development is the arrival of new kinds of literacies. In the age of print, being literate meant being able to understand by reading the meaning of a single author. Nowadays, in the online age, being literate entails the interpretation of information and creation of knowledge from a number of resources.

Reading and researching skills include—selection of right questions, right tools, finding the information, archiving and saving information, interpreting information and using and citing information. There is a huge difference between conducting research by reading books in the library and dong it online, where critical decisions like scrolling down a page, pursuing an internal link, trying an external link, or quitting the page and conducting a new search need to be made every second.

“Critical literacy” was a special part of language education, whereas today, all literacy requires an acute sense of critical judgment. The ultimate thing is to get out from the phase of passivity to that of interactive self developing ways based on technology. Teachers can also seek assistance from technology that enables better multimedia features. This will help them in accommodating the needs of learners’ thereby satisfying the required diversity in the delivery of instruction.

Students can be provided support from educational research databases and online study materials and other electronic resources. The technology rooted media getting into shape through the integration of various above elements forms multimedia (Partnership for 21st century Skill, 2006) The teachers are the one who have to inculcate the multimedia based education in class rooms; hence they form the most important factor that can make this technology instruction system a success. Before students it’s the teachers who have to make necessary adjustments in the teaching and education process.

In the same way, in case of TPS training the modern process requires imaginative instructors with a vision to harvest the tools of modern technology for enabling better information delivery. So, for developing multimedia class rooms, the teachers must act on their own learning process. They should remain updated with best possible multimedia technology and their possible application in primary education. So technology literacy is a necessity and the instructors should also be provided the necessary help. Senior officers play a very important role in maintaining subordinates’ familiarity with technology. Assessment Practices.

Training is more of a process than a procedure requiring continuous involvement so that the ultimate level of proficiency in a specific skill or competence could be achieved (Salas & Teachout, 1997). The process have seen many changes and from an era of training techniques based on robust military personnel with little civilian involvement, the technique has moved on to new models where learning continue to materialize in all areas. As the models are still in very nascent stage hence the level of implementation has continued to be slow. The hyperstudio based training modules can be an answer to rapid implementation.

Hence the assessment practices can be made to for better utilization facilitating effective learning in conjunction with other student activities to support the achievement and to increase performance (Biggs, 1999). In the case of the military, readiness is the factor that influences the length of time a military force may sustain operations on a particular mission. New Learning Media The Department of the Army Training Command has been very innovative in the introduction of new training programs enabling the use of modern technology and digital media so that its potential for teaching could be tapped with ease (Gee, 2003).

Multimedia and associated technology is one of the modern technologies that have brought revolution to the way education process is now being delivered. It’s a combination of various media with information being delivered in more than one form simultaneously. TPS training when cultivated over the multimedia tools would basically use a combination of various media, or elements, with example being the Audio, Colour, Video, Text, Graphics and finally Animation. Hyperstudio is one of the many means to use of multimedia technology.

The differentiating factor in this case has been range of features that hyperstudio brings with it along with the most important one that is interactivity. The use of multimedia will enable students to use digital technology for interacting with the world while gaining experience through a wide variety of electronic tools. The world can now be presented to them in a variety of visual / auditory and interactive ways with best possible ease and comfort (Heinich, Molenda, Russell & Smaldino, 2002)

Conclusion The instructional techniques are under continuous development and many thing shave been introduced to it with the advent of digital technologies. The generalization is very much visible from the details mentioned above and with learner getting influenced through various modes of instruction and the learner could be anyone, a military personnel or a simple student and hence there is a continuous work on the development of a more effective instructional technique.

New and innovative methods are being considered to improve the learning experience of DOD personnel. The literature review shows that although there have been different methodologies adopted and considered to train and prepare personnel, it may be necessary to research more training methods to enhance preparedness and performance of the Army personnel.
