Great information altogether, but my main question still hasn’t been answered. I think I have Pinterest figured out and my traffic is gradually growing. I haven’t reached 5000 views per month yet but right now it seems like I will get 1000 page views in August and I started Pinterest mid-July with 0 views. I’m sure could be better, but not too bad either. Advertising is easy to start, making it a popular income stream for many bloggers. However, it’s not nearly as lucrative as it once was and it requires a lot of traffic to be truly profitable.
Also, it runs the risk of frustrating your readers (ever been on a site only to be assaulted by the ads?) and making your site look cheap and unsophisticated.
Therefore, it’s not a top recommendation of mine. It’s going to take you a long time, and most of the time you will never hear back and you’ll never get added to their boards.
That’s just the way it goes, and it’s okay. You have to cast your net wide and understand that rejection is just part of the game. With that said, don’t forget that your readers come first. Your content should always provide value to your readers, even if they don’t click on an affiliate link. Hi, SarahEdge on the side of caution. Although putting a link on your site to another site for money is not illegal, it is against Google’s guidelines, as the person wanting the link is trying to manipulate the SERPs for their own gain.
There are better ways to monetize your site, as these people normally want you to link out to sites that aren’t really relevant to your audience or content on your site. This is a fun and important step, because your blog name is your brand. It’s how you’ll be remembered. But, don’t overthink it. The key is to take action and gain momentum. Blogging to build credibility can lead to many money-making opportunities. For instance, let us say you start a blog in the finance industry. People start reading your content, and your blog becomes very popular. You are now a recognized figure in the finance industry.
Even though most income might not come directly from a blog, having a blog is important because you can control your message and have a place where you are findable (is that word?). Also, it’s the best place to build an email list. A few years back, blogging was just another hobby that some people did in addition to working full-time jobs. Today, blogging still functions in that way, but a lot has changed. The key here is to keep it entertaining, add value and create a community around your brand. Depending upon your style and consistency, you could mint a lot of money with this strategy. To build a truly successful blog, you first need to build influence. And to build authority, you need to step outside of your comfort zone and leverage your connections, professional experience, and everything at your disposal like never before.
This is typically done with a trackable link or unique promo code to ensure clicks actually translate into sales. Since Instagram doesn’t yet allow links anywhere outside of your bio, you can only focus on one product at a time if you choose to rely on affiliate links, making promo codes a better option for Instagram since you can actually incorporate them into your posts. Next, use a keyword research tool like the free Google Keyword Planner or a better SEO tool like Ahrefs and enter your keywords. If your top 5 keywords have search volumes of at least 5,000, this shows that there is interest in these topics. Here’s an example of my target keyword in this blog post: There are many things you can do related to branding (like having a distinct logo, unique slogan, etc.), and community building is one of them.
Trust me, I’ve been there. But as we’ve covered already, if it were that easy to make money blogging, then just about everyone would be a rich blogger by now. Sell 200 affiliate marketing products at $50 per sale every month. Or B. Close 3-4 high-end consulting deals. Which is easier? The affiliate marketing option may require 25,000-50,000+ monthly site visitors; the consulting option only requires a little expertise and a sales funnel. For example, right now I’m going to plug an amazing affiliate marketing course that I took from Michelle Schroeder-Gardner that I am now an affiliate for. (She makes over $50K a month from affiliate marketing).
I’m talking about affiliate marketing, she has a course on affiliate marketing. It feels “right.” So you already know this article is not going to be about how easy it is to buy a Swiss watch with the ad revenue from your YouTube views. (Though if you have millions of views, you could probably at least rent one. Wait, don’t.) With dropshipping, it sort of works the other way around. When a customer purchases something on your website (for which you hold no inventory), you contact your supplier and ask them to ship one to your customer directly.

You need roughly a million visitors per year for the large ad networks to take you seriously, and affiliate marketing is almost always more profitable and just as passive. Although I have covered this in step 2 above, I’m mentioning this again because it is extremely important. If your content is not up to Google standards, then whatever you will read below, will not work.
