The Holocaust was one of the most tragic events in history which ended many innocent Jewish lives. Six million Jews plus many more were completely wiped out due to the effects of the Holocaust. It is still unforgivable for the things the Nazi party did and is still a very questionable subject on how they were able to accomplish such devastation. To be able to organize the removal of an entire population of people based on their religion not only takes high intelligence, but most of all takes a very twisted and demented outlook on life.
Learning about the holocaust and the people involved is very important, as well as how it has affected our world today. There are many very fascinating things about the holocaust but three very fascinating things are Gerda Weissmann’s story and her faith in humanity, the lessons learned from the holocaust that have changed the world, and whether or not people have moved on from the Holocaust and considered it ‘old news. ’ First off, the first thing that is very captivating thing about the Holocaust is Gerda Weissmann’s story and her faith in humanity.
I believe that having faith in humanity is trusting other people to do the right thing. Having faith in humanity is trusting yourself, as well as the rest of civilization to make something of this world. To have faith in humanity is to believe somehow the chaos of this universe will eventually be resolved by those ahead of us in the future. Gerda Weissmann Klein had faith in humanity. Though she struggled through work camps and indifferent Nazis for years, she was still able to pull through. In many ways Gerda had faith in humanity while the Holocaust was going on. Gerda never ran away or gave up, though she thought about it.
She had faith that someday, humanity would change, they would stop the senseless killing and stop violence. Throughout Gerda’s experience in the holocaust she experienced many things that sometimes made her question if she wanted to live anymore as well as her faith in humanity. Her brother was forced to join the German Army, and she was later separated from her parents and was then sent to a slave labor camp with harsh conditions. She was even a part of the death march where her best friend died in her arms. Though this is only some of what Gerda went through, throughout the whole Holocaust She never gave up hope.
I’m sure there were days when Gerda’s faith in humanity was destroyed because of what she had to go through, but I know that it was once restored when she and those still alive were finally liberated by American troops. Secondly, another captivating thing about the Holocaust is the lessons from it that have changed our world in many ways today. In many ways our world has changed because of the holocaust. Our world has changed because we have learned that we can’t let nations go about their business, Even though every country has a right to do what they want, what they want could be bad and “evil”.
We also learned that there is a very frightening side to dictatorship and what happens when there are no checks and balances to keep one person from holding too much power. Because of the Holocaust we are very cautious to make sure that another thing like it doesn’t happen. To make sure something similar to the Holocaust doesn’t happen we are sure to teach people about the horrors of the Holocaust. Even more so because the world we live in today is far more complex, which would make it even easier to build such mass killing machines.
Also we are to make sure not to encourage or discriminate against minorities, people of different religion, gender or race. Every day there are bad things that go on around the world that we are continually surprised at. When there are ‘bad’ people doing evil things in the world, we are often surprised because it is hard to believe that someone can be so awful, being that most people of the world are so kind and warm hearted. That being said, we do not want to believe our eyes when awful people decide to terrorize the world.
We just can’t understand how some people can be so cruel, so we are always very surprised when ‘bad’ people do evil things in the world. Lastly, another fascinating thing about the Holocaust is whether or not people have moved on from the Holocaust and considered it ‘old news’ in today’s world. Many people believe that in today’s world, we have moved on from the holocaust and considered it ‘old news’. In my opinion we have definitely not moved on or forgotten the Holocaust, how could we? The Holocaust was such a catastrophic event that changed the world forever. It will never be forgotten.
In many ways the Holocaust is so disturbing but I’m glad to know about it. Hitler was wrong for killing the Jews because all people should be treated the same. It’s horrible how no one back then knew anything. And even though some did have their suspicions, they never did anything… the whole thing is sick, horrible, and terribly sad. Centuries from now people will still remember the Holocaust because it was a major event in history when millions of Jews and others were murdered, there for it will never be forgotten. We need to remember the Holocaust so that we remember the horrors that innocent people were put through.
Our history can help us learn from our past and live for a better future. We must always remember the Holocaust so that the same thing will not happen again.
’ The Holocaust was one of the most devastating tragedies that our world has encountered. There can be no doubt that the Holocaust changed the lives of many Jewish people forever. From the Physical affects, to the spiritual affects, The Jewish people were greatly devastated. Even though the holocaust was disastrous, it thought us many lessons. We are now aware of how devastating the Holocaust was, and the affects of it, so we are to make sure that it is never to happen again.
