Enhancing Primary Health Care for Rural Australians

Carey et al. (2013) presented a systematic review like this one. They included nineteen articles in their inclusion criteria on core primary health services provided to rural Australians. This paper provides a set of basic health care facilities that health professionals can use to influence policymakers and collaborate with clients to ensure that primary health care is delivered equitably. The important task for the policymakers, clients and medical professionals is to work as a team to assess the core services for rural and remote regions of Australia and the rest of the countries with the same rural population.

This paper also provides a guide for the stakeholders to make primary health care more accessible for the rural population.

Findings:

After reviewing multiple studies of different scholars, there is a need to make primary health care services accessible to all Australian especially those residing in the rural areas of the country. As mentioned by Wakerman and Humphreys (2011), the Australian government needs to implement policies that involve the population from the rural and remote areas.

Limitations and Conclusion:

The research paper focuses on primary health care in Australia and investigates the need for the policy in the rural areas of the country. The research was a systematic literature review that focused on primary health care in Australia and the support of the Australian government for its promotion. As mentioned in the paper, the Australian government is supporting the innovation of the primary health care services and now the majority of the medical professionals especially the nurses are free to fulfill the needs of the citizens. The concentration needs to be diverted towards the rural population who doesn't have easy access to primary health care services in their regions. Policymakers should get inspiration from the literature investigated for the rural population. The topic limited the researcher to find out more about the rural areas of Australia because not much research has been found in this field. The studies that may be conducted in the future should enhance their inclusion criteria through the provision of affordable primary health services to the rural population of Australia.
