GMO is basically stand for “Genetically Modified Organisms”. It follows the process in which the genetic material of one species manipulated through genetic engineering to another species. Its is a mostly used in the field agriculture to produce crops such as corn, soy, tomato, etc. The first genetically modified food WAS Tomatoes which was sold by Celgene Inc in 1990.

The first company who sell GMO product was bought up by Monsanto. The main specially of these tomatoes is that they were engineered to suppress the polygalacturonate gene to delay how quickly they would soften after ripening means these tomatoes are picks riper and keep for longer time rather than any other varieties.

After this the GMO products are become popular among all the companies. Through which in 2011, almost 160 million hectares of GM crops are grown in 90% part of US as comparted to Brazil, India, Argentina. Approximately 82% of cotton, 75% of soybeans, 32% of corn, and 26% of canola are genetically engineered.

As every research has its own cons and pons.

The GMO company had to answer many questions regarding the safety and health issues of people. Many Anti-GMO companies and the Food and Drug Administration companies come forward and claim that the products which grow with the help of GMO is not good for health and create so many diseases. They claim the following effects:

Failure to Increase Yield

As compared to other Non-GMO products GMO fail to increase the yield of crops. In the report of International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) they stated that GM crop yields were “highly variable” and in some cases, “yields declined.”

Other Effects

The process of Genetic engineering of mixing genes from totally unrelated species creates many other dangerous side effects. Moreover, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies that effect the environment and human life’s.
