There are many traits that I think a government leader should possess. Some of those are: a relationship with Christ, willingness to work hard, honesty, self-discipline, and the desire to do what is right. These are essential for a good leader. If a government leader is missing any of these especially the relationship with Christ, there really is no need for them to be in office governing.
A relationship with Christ is the most important trait a government leader should have.
If they have a relationship with Christ, then all the other traits should follow. The bible tells us that when we have a relationship with Christ we will bear fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law. Now no one with a relationship with Christ is perfect but strive to do their best. That’s why you can trust a government official who is a Christian.
Willingness to work is the next most important trait for a government official. If they’re not willing to work, there is no way that they should be in government because it is a lot work. and you reap what you sow. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
So, we need people who are willing to work governing us.
Honesty is a huge one. People can’t trust someone dishonest. Trusting someone in government that is dishonest, is like getting into a blind man’s car and thinking he can get you to where you want to go. If a man is a Christian, he will be honest. James 1:26 if any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue but decieveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Another trait that a government official should have is self-discipline. 1 Timothy 4:7 But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose godliness. Even if a government official has a relationship with Christ, honesty, and a willingness to work doesn’t mean they will get stuff done. If a person has no personal discipline nothing will happen or someone else will make it happen and that usually doesn’t work out too well.
The desire to do what is right. Gods children have the desire to do right because the want to please their Lord. If someone goes into office with no desire to do right we could be in trouble.
A relationship with Christ is the most important trait in a government official. With it the willingness to work, honesty, self-discipline, and the desire to do what is right will fall into their place. Though there a many traits a government official could and should have I find that these five are most important.
