During the American Revolution, George Washington was one of if not the main key to the Patriot's win against the British world power. At that time, to go up against such power was unprecedented let alone win against such a powerful and brutal force. Around the time of June 1775, Congress made the army called the Continental Army. When they were deciding to make it, George Washington was there sitting with his old battle uniform throwing hints at the Continental Congress that he wanted to lead and beat the British because he wanted the win as much as the next person.
Surely enough they gave him the power of being the General and Commander-in-chief of the entire continental army. He had nothing to work with in terms of a military other than random militias around the 13 colonies. When he became in charge, he went around gathering up the vast majority of militias he could find around and trying to put them together to form somewhat of an official army.
When George had his army ready, he went over to Boston and attempted to drive out the British forces that were located there in which he was successful in his mission. Right after he completed his mission, it had a downfall. The forces which he had moved from Boston where he got his victory to New York were removed from the city due to the attack from the British army that had almost cost the Patriots the war. Thanks to Washington’s smart ideas, he managed to escape with a good amount of his army.
With the continuation of the escape from New York City, the troops from England kept on pursuing them throughout New Jersey.
Washington managed to laugh a very successful attack on the eve of Christmas on 1776. Once that happened, another victory at Princeton happened which ended up giving hope to the people fighting in the war that they can win this major battle against Britain. In 1777 around December, George’s troops stopped at valley forge and set up camp there. It was a very chilly place to be and due to the conditions, a good number of soldiers ended up dying because of diseases and the environment was too much for them to handle. At the same time, some good came out of the resting stop because it helped the remainder of the troops improve greatly in terms of their fighting skills. Time passed on and the army led by Washington had a battle with the British in Monmouth County. The fight overall ended in a draw but thanks to the training and many fights, it showed the British that The Continental army can stand its ground against a powerhouse like Britain. In 1781, the French came to the assistance of George Washington. Thanks to the reinforcement of the French fleet, together they managed to corner the British forces to where they had nowhere else to run and made them surrender around October of 1781. This fight alone is what helped the Patriots towards their goal.
