June 26th, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is a right protected by the U.S Constitution in all fifty states. Before this date, only 37 states had legalized gay marriage. Prior to 2015 the rates of approval for gay marriage was extremely low. Congress previously tried to ban gay marriage, but only received 48 of the needed 60 votes for the proposal. This prompted gay marriage supporters to fight that much harder to have gay marriage legalized and be granted all of the rights as a heterosexual couple.
I, personally, approve of gay marriage.
To begin with, marriage is an internationally recognized human right for all people. Americans have the right to be free, and getting married to whomever they want should be a part of being “free”. My opinion on gay marriage is, if same sex couples are happy, then let them be happy. Gay couples do not bother me personally. Seeing same sex couples do not affect the way I look at other males or females, which is another reason why I support gay marriage.
I have a homosexual friend and anytime we go in public, there are always eyes on him and people whispering to each other because of his appearance. Humans should not act in that certain way. Everyone should be treated equally and not judged for who they are and who they want to be with. Many parents prevent their children from being around gay teens or adults. Everybody is different and unique in their own way.
I feel as if, you are attracted to the same sex, then you were born to be gay. No one technically influenced you to be gay. It was a choice. When parents do not allow kids to be around kids who are gay, will make children feel neglected or disliked.
Lastly, I’ve always been asked, “what would you do if your future son or daughter turned gay?”. I, Honestly, wouldn’t mind. I would love my child for whomever he or she is. Many kids who are gay get bullied for liking the same sex. It would make it ten times worse, if their own parent is not accepting the child for who he or she is. Since children have the closest relationship with their parents, getting the parents to accept them for who they are should make other people’s’ opinions irrelevant.
Most people who are against same sex marriages, think marriage should be between a male and female. In my opinion, denying gay marriage is not going to change people from being gay. It just makes a homosexual feel worse about themselves and feel like a disgrace to society. People who are against gay marriage should prevent conflict by allowing same sex couples to be together and get married. The world will never be a happy place is no one ever agrees on controversial issues like this one. If society comes to an agreement, and realizes that being gay is not that big of a deal, the the world will be a much better place.
