The Hunger Games is a novel by Suzanne Collins. It is the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy.
The novel is set in Panem, a post-apocalyptic country that is divided into 12 districts. Each year, two tributes from each district are chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, a televised event in which the 24 tributes must fight to the death.
Katniss Everdeen, the 16-year-old protagonist of the novel, is chosen as a tribute from District 12. She is reluctant to compete but does so to protect her younger sister, Prim.
Katniss forms an alliance with another tribute, Peeta Mellark, and they manage to survive the games. However, they are both severely wounded and Katniss is left with PTSD.
The novel ends with Katniss and Peeta being declared the winners of the Hunger Games.
