Jin Wang struggles to fit in at his new school. He is teased for being Chinese and is often left out of activities. However, Jin Wang is determined to make friends and he eventually befriends a group of American boys.
The story then follows Jin Wang as he tries to balance his Chinese and American cultures. He eventually falls in love with an American girl, but he is afraid to tell his parents.
The story ends with Jin Wang’s acceptance of both his Chinese and American cultures. He realizes that he can be both Chinese and American and that his two cultures are not mutually exclusive.
