What is a Gothic novel? A Gothic novel is a novel that contains characteristics of things like mystery, magic and chivalry. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a gothic novel because everything in the book has magic in everything that happens. This novel is a fantasy and literary. The novel took place in 1865 and the setting was in Wonderland.

Lewis Carroll was born on January 27, 1832 in Daresbury, United Kingdom. He was the oldest of eleven brothers and sisters. When he was twenty years old he got an award for a studentship scholarship to christ college. He was awarded prizes for his abilities in math. “The Hunting of the Shark” was one of many poems he wrote.

Plot

Alice was sitting by a tree one day falling asleep to a book she was reading when she saw a white rabbit hurrying to a hole. He was constantly checking his watch and saying “I’m late, I’m late”. Alice decides to follow him which leads her down a rabbit hole and comes to a room with a bottle that says “drink me”. She decides to drink what was in the bottle and she shrinks. Then Alice realizes that she can not fit through the door. So she eats something that makes her big again, grabs the key then drinks from the bottle again to make herself small once again.

Alice is then mistaken for a servant and had cake thrown at her which she ate and made her shrink. She then headed to the forest where she met and got into an argument with the Caterpillar. The next character she meets is the Cheshire cat which explains to her that “everyone in wonderland is mad”. Next she meets the Mad Hatter who is obsessed with “Tea Time”. When she leaves “Tea Time ” with the Mad Hatter she meets the Queen of Hearts who tries to make her go on trial but gets frustrated with her and orders her to be beheaded. Alice then wakes up and goes inside to have tea with her sister.
