Final Reflection Assignment
Learning to me is allowing your brain to receive information and then applying in to your life experiences. I feel like face to face learning is better, however, online is more convenient. I prefer face to face because it offers a more personal relationship with your classmates and your professor. Although it is not practical for my life, I do wish I could attend classes in a regular environment. Online provides me that much needed space and opportunity to move at my own pace. Now that I have taken this class, I know that while I am receiving information I will be more aware of the information being delivered because I will now be more intentional with receiving the information. I was rated at a score of 24 for Sequence. I use sequence when my most common method becomes overwhelming. I usually go in head first for a solution, for example, if I have to put a bike together, I start by looking at all the parts and researching information about the importance of certain mechanisms and how they work.
If, while putting it together, I become confused about parts, I then resort back to the instruction manual to see where I went wrong. I was rated at a 33 for precision. This is how I prefer to work. I like to know about the project in detail before I begin. I research a product before I make purchases as well. Where it would take someone only moments to make a decision on a product, I usually take days or even weeks if there are no time restraints to research the process, and cost in different places. I was rated at a 16 for technical reasoning. I am not a technical person at all. I do not like to put things together. When or if I have to, I go through several channels prior to starting to put something together. I would read about it, look at videos of how to put it together or install it. I tend to procrastinate on technical stuff that is why I prefer to just ask for help from someone who is great at that type of thing.
Usually, by the time I’ve figured out how to do it, it’s too late or behind deadline. I wasn’t surprised that I was rated to avoid the learning pattern. It is truly not my strong suit. I was rated at a 28 for confluence. I like working with a team. It lets me be creative. I say that to say that I am willing to take lots of risks and do it different. That is the plus with working with a group, there are so many different ideas that can be shared with a group. That way things aren’t done as a routine. Also, I like to share my way of doing things and most people are very receptive to that. I realized, while learning about my patterns, that I can either utilize my patterns to its full potential or I can FIT it to the project that I’m doing. Now that I’m more aware of my way of understanding and receiving information I can be a more intentional learning.
Being able to utilize my critical reading and writing skills I can be more successful in making it through school. Before I knew my pattern of learning, I would just read a lot of information without decoding how I can apply it for better understanding. The hardest part of understanding my learning pattern is that because I know it, and I know my capabilities, I will have to teach myself how study and read information with intention. When you have done something a certain way all your life, it’s hard to change the way you receive information. I will practice being more conscious of how I’m taking in the information for a particular task or project.
Some of the same advice I read from my peers on week 3 of the class will actually help me apply myself differently to a situation. This class was very interesting, listening to the videos provided and reading posts from other class mates has been very interesting. I Really had a hard time trying to understand the process of using my learning patterns but with guidance from my instructor and peers I definitely have a clear understanding of what I need to do to not only succeed in a class but to receive information and use it accordingly.At first, I really thought of this class as somewhat of a tutorial and after going through the entire process I now know that it is in fact a tutorial. A tutorial that will help me process information in different ways for fit a situation. I really wish, however, there was a skype type class setup so that I could see emotion with the information being shared amongst peers and the instructor.
