Uncovering the Consequences of Neglected Death

She had been dead for several weeks before we understood the gravity of our situation. The odor of frozen blood was evident on the floor and walls. It had dripped down over time from the walls, and now there were long slender streams of blood dripping down slowly till it eventually froze. Before we knew it, the sun slowly rose up sending out rays of amber light to light up the sky. The moon continued its journey.

The feds had arrived, with a few other detectives to examine the scene.

The body had been the host of maggots and other nasty things since the murder. The smell was unbearable. The estate had cameras all around the walls, so anyone coming in and out could be identified.

We made our way through the dark hallway, as the hospital-like lights flickered on and off. I kept my hand on the gun holster, I wasn't going to take any chances. We approached the control room to find the door locked.

Damus and I tried to pick it open with a pin, but no luck.

Only way to get inside was to kick the door down. Damus asked me to try, so I went back a few steps. As I ran towards the door, I reminisced on the training I received at the academy. I hit the door shoulder first, it surprisingly bust open quite easily. We walked in guns at the ready, to find no one inside. "Check behind the curtain" Damus said. I walked up as the curtain swayed away with the wind.

As I slowly grabbed the curtain, I put my hand on the trigger, ready to pull it even though I wasn't ready for it. Nothing. Absolutely nothing, except the window had collected dust, but there were areas that looked like they had the dirt removed from. The distinct pattern of a hand showed. This further reinforced our understanding of this.

"Oh, you won't find what you are looking for in there", a creepy voice from the hallway. As I turned to see, I felt an uneasiness within me, something wasn't right. This man had a different look to him, like he didn't belong. A tube with a needle was poking out his right hand, slowly dripping fluid. He turned his head in a demonic way, as Damus spoke out, "What the hell do you think you're doing. This is a crime scene".

I'm very much involved in this crime scene", he replied. Was he giving himself away? I didn't understand what he meant until he grabbed the needle inside the superficial veins of his upper limb and yanked it out. Blood gushed out like a fountain, dripping everywhere. He walked towards us, picking up pace. By this time, Damus and I had realised he was responsible for the horrific crime downstairs.

Don't make me shoot you" I yelled, with my pistol pointing towards him. I was shaking uncontrollably, as he approached closer. His pace built up slowly to the point where he was running, with the needle pointing towards me. He came so close, seemed like time froze, I saw his eyes. He was afraid.

This wasn't him, it was almost like he was possessed and being forced against his own will to do this. BANG! I do not know if that was done by me or it was my built-up instinct. Fight or Flight. I fought, it looks like. The bullet hit him, narrowly missing his heart.

We called the medics, but he died before they could arrive, from the loss of blood it seemed. It was him though. He killed that woman. It was his ex-wife. I found out later on, he suffered from a mental disorder. This all seemed right to him.
