Explain why Christians might have different views about whether divorce is right

In the last 10 years the divorce rate has grown and grown. The attitude among Christians, however, differs from person to person and place to place depending on their interpretation on the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that divorce is always wrong, but the Church of England recognise that divorce happens, but they do no encourage it.

'Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are to love god with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and to love your neighbour as yourself.

' Marriages play a very important part in society today, and so do all kinds relationships of giving support and protection to the people involved in them. But the difference is a marriage should be based on a long term friendship, a marriage must involve agape love, and the decision to get married should not be on impulse. This is why many Christians views on divorce is that divorce is not aloud because marriage is for your entire life, 'From this day forward' and 'Till death do us part.

Both these bible quotes ay that marriage is for life, and you should stay with your partner until your lie or their life comes to an end.

A marriage is a very good environment for a child to thrive, because it gives support and closure to them, but when a married couple split it had a huge impact on everyone involved in the relationship, and friends of the peoples involved, in particular the children. 'If anyone does not provide for his relatives and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

' In marriage the couple will play their own role, giving strength and moral courage to their children. But if this is interrupted, and the couple argue, this can have a huge effect on the child, but it is not only the immediate family who will be negatively affected by divorce, friends may have to ultimately make the decision to be loyal to one of the partners. 'Love your neighbour as yourself.'

'It is not good for man to live alone, I will make a helper suitable for him.' Christians follow the teaching that god himself has written, 'A man will leave his farther and be united with to his wife, the two will become one flesh. Therefore, what god has joined let no man separate.' The Bible emphasises the fact that marriage is a commitment, and it does this numerous times. Consequently, if divorce comes to light then it suggests that the vows undertake on their wedding day had no significance, 'It is better not to marry if possible, but if you burn with passion, then marry.' Finally, Christians are meant to show Agape love as well as Eros love in a relationship, such as marriage. This love is unconditional, 'Paul talked about the qualities of love, that love was the greatest gift from god.' The ring, in Christianity, is a symbol of everlasting love which remains unbroken until death. It is a witness/symbol to other people of the partner's commitment to the other partner.

In conclusion, people will always have different views on divorce as long as religion stands its ground because with rules there are always millions of examples and many of them may make this rule hard to live by, for example, if a woman is being abused by her husband, she should be able to divorce him. However, my view is that marriage is forever and it should be forever 'Till death do us part.' People should only get married if they are willing to spend all their life Everyone knows that when they take the commitment, what they are committing themselves to, there are no hidden 'terms and conditions' marry. 'It is better not to marry if possible, but if you burn with passion, then marry.' However, I believe there are examples where divorce should be aloud such as in domestic violence and where a marriage isn't functioning.
